  1. Going to have the 2 trigger fingers on my left hand repaired in two weeks. I'll try to get some pots thrown before since I'll be away from the wheel for a few weeks after the surgery...

  2. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all you wonderful people.

  8. Started a firing last night, something told me no right. I turned it off and waited til it cooled but, not before I noticed top coil was not firing. Later found that the SC-20 fuse on the right side on top layer was blown! No replacements until this morning with a walk to Ace Hardware. Firing now

  9. I need a manual for Shimpo RK Whisperer that shows how to change the wheel bearing.  Can anyone help?

  10. Hi Stella, I found a very old posting about the vitrified test tiles you coated with milk but I never did see the outcome of these tiles and wondered if you had them available, also I am very inspired to learn more about this process. Is there anything else you can share with me? I am especially curious about this milk bath process and food safety. Do you know if it would be safe to make a mug and use it for hot and cold beverages?
    Thanks so much! :-)

  11. Hello everyone.

Thank you for creating friendly community. So much knowledge and experience is concentrated here...

i am husband of amateur potter, and my duties were to find kiln on Craig’s list and install it, buy sink and install clay trap, and of course to enjoy all the products of my wife’s work...

Your more big time into coffee than my son, he is a trained chef and picked up the trick of using a popcorn popper from another chef.  Did you get your settling system built for your sink?  If you have anymore studio questions just ask before you spend a lot of money.   I have had three different studios in the past 45 years,  I am not even counting the first area I had was a chair,  fold down desk top and small kiln.   I started out with hand building and glass melting.  I  had done hand building in high school and eventually got my degree in a ceramics fine arts degree.   Denice

Do you have shelving for her wares?   You can put together plastic shelving and take a piece of plastic and wrap it around and make  a flap in the front.   This can be her drying shelves,  she can control how much air she needs by pulling back the flaps.  My husband used plastic electrical ties to connect it to the plastic grid type shelves.  This unit was in my last studio,  my current studio has a plastic utility cabinet that has shelves that can be moved, but I have to keep wire  racks on each one so the pots can dry evenly.   My son  also roast his coffee beans, he buys green coffee beans off the internet  and then roast them in a old style popcorn air popper.  He makes them in small batches,  he will ask you if want a cup of coffee and then put some pens in the popper.  You will get your coffee eventually.    Denice

Maybe you could try a little clay work yourself.   I have often tried to get my husband interested but he would rather work on a car.   Occasionally he  works at one of my tables adjusting a  car part and we have a nice time working in the same area.   I applaud you for being such a supportive husband.   My husband built all of my work benches with work bench leg kits from the lumber yard.  The tops are made of a salvaged large solid core doors.    Just a little hint of what your next project should be.  Denice

  14. A milestone for me today as I threw my first 5 pound pot and it didn't collapse on me. It will be a horsehair Raku pot purchased by my wife's uncle as a gift for his son and daughter-in-law who are horse people...

  15. first bisque done....little kiln did fine....no problems...that I know of.

  16. Cleaned my studio/ workshop Sunday.  My workbench was overflowing with materials from numerous projects, not just clay work, but home improvement projects, my daughter's school project, etc.

Oddly enough, there wasn't a lot of clay scraps and residue, but a ridiculous amount of cat hair, from a certain feline, who thinks she owns the place...

  17. Found a house with space for a studio. Been a long 3-4 years with little to no pottery ;[

    Excited :DD

  18. Working on a soft blue glaze today to celebrate the gender of my baby on the way. I think I might do some limited edition work in a very soft robins egg blue since that is my favorite mason stain to date. Finally getting some time in the studio again. Life is crazy.

  19. I was just reminded how fragile bone-dry greenware is when I was transporting a stack of berry bowls from my studio to my garage to load into the kiln...broke 2. Will open the kiln this afternoon to unload 40 pieces and get ready for glazing and horsehair Raku...

  20. I know this is a long shot but does anyone know why a Cress FX 27 P kiln's start button keeps popping out?  KIln heats up but only of i keep my finger on the start button.

    Thanks

  21. I am finally back in the studio, hand- building. It is 23 degrees and I am snowed in. I won't get back to the wheel until spring.

  22. Making fish mugs with friends today. The plan is give one to Ray Troll when he is in Aracta on  book signing tour later in month

  23. The challenge to Self these days is my old nemesis--lack of patience. So, to push myself into either a state of growing frustration or a state of growing acceptance, I am making myself replay old scenes in the hidden objects game June's Journey. That is a game that requires mega patience, on steroids. Why? you ask. Because I let myself actually run out of clay--all three of my main types. I ordered some, and they are out of the one I need the most and need the fastest! Go figure.   Another lesson in patience, coming right up. (Yeah, they are getting in it and shipping it soon.)

  25. That moment you have been making jars with a gallery and also a lid inner gallery that are so perfect that when you wax them they no longer fit inside of each other... perfection. Then that moment where you realize you forgot to turn on a preheat for your greenware to fire in a glaze firing and remember at 540F before you have a terrible disaster in your kiln and you stop it and vacuum it the next day. Thank you Jesus.
