finally over the shingles and can start working in the studio. mostly to clean it up so i can find the tabletop.

My husband's eye doctor is the person who told us that it expires in five years. We were planning to take a trip to Wyoming in Sept. keeping my fingers crossed that he is over the shingles by then. I think Shingrix should give a lot more info on the different types of shingles I am sure a lot more people would get the shot if they knew they could lose their sight in one eye, hearing in one ear for have half their face paralyzed. Roberta how long did your friend take to get over his shingles? My husband is into his third week, still has a bad headache and sleeps all of the time. Did you get the old one shot vaccination or two shot ShringX, doctors are recommending the ShringX every 5 years and say the old shot didn't work well. My second shot is due the end of October, I think I'll put it on my calendar. Denice

As soon as we figured out he had shingles I went out and got the first shot. I had just read a article that said it was alright for people with MS to get Shringx vaccine. Couldn't get the previous vaccine it had live virus in it. My husband is about the same, the sores on his face are shrinking. He is still sleeping most of the time and says his head has a huge pressure on it, back to the eye doctor tomorrow. I am working on a mural in my studio so I have plenty of work to keep me busy. I also believed his outbreak was caused by stress. He has been restoring a car and wanted to get it finished by the end of September for a big car show. He has been working on it in 105 degree weather for days at a time. I asked the doctor if this could have caused his Shingles and he said most definitely. Denice

How long did you suffer from shingles, my husband is dealing with them right now. He has the worse type on his face and in his eye. He is on a bunch of medicines and has a weekly visit with a eye doctor, he as a sore on the center of his eye, and he has to be checked for more sores. He might need a cornea transplant and if one gets in the back of that eye he could lose his sight. It has been a week, all he does is sleep and barely eats. Denice

Just thought I would let everyone know that I am still alive. We had a tornado across the street from us last night. It was turning east so it missed us but it did a lot of damage to a small town a mile from us. Denice

Well of course they treated us like we were hypochondriacs. We are WIMMINZ!!! All wimminz are hysterical nutbags. I had a (female) friend who nearly died from prolonged internal bleeding because that's what doctors by and large thought (and still think). The one doctor who finally treated her appropriately told her the answer had been in her blood work all along, if only anyone had bothered to actually analyze the results.
It's not a lot better for old men. But old women (like us) still get it worse. Oh the horror stories I could relate after I moved my dad in with me ...
The first doctor I suggested Addison's Disease to LAUGHED at me, no kidding, laughed right out loud. Big Belly Laughs. After my first Addisonian crisis. Despite my telling him I'd been diagnosed as borderline for it years ago. It took a SECOND Addisonian crisis and almost another whole year before I got appropriate treatment. In the hospital, the nurse kept telling the doctor - 3 times in 5 minutes - that I had "multiple non-specific complaints", which is medicalese for "she's imagining it all". She wasn't even going to test me for Covid, which is what I thought it was at the time, having had it already once right at the beginning of the pandemic. I had to tell the doctor that my PCP wanted me tested (which wasn't really true but WOULD have been if she had known what was going on) to get tested for Covid because whatever that nurse had told him out of my hearing had hardened the idea that I was a Big Fat Faker. Oh and I had lost 25 lbs in less than a week by then (ultimately it was 40 in 10 days) and I got told I sure had it to lose.
!!!!
You have my complete sympathy. At least mine can be easily treated with 2 tiny pills a day. I have regrets about the fact that nearly my entire adult life passed me by while I wasn't getting treatment, but mostly after all this time I'm just relieved to be more or less normal - health-wise at least. Surely your health would have been better had you started receiving treatment earlier, overall? Sure wish we could go back in time and tie some knots in a few tails ...

It's official, and medical mystery solved. I have Addison's disease. So an end to 30 years of declining functioning and having my issues foisted off on alleged "mental problems". Too late to rescue any of my multiple careers - but at least I still have enough life left, and now the energy, to spend lotsa time playing in the mud!

I am happy that you finally got a diagnosis. I went through the same thing with doctors, they would imply that I was a hypochondriac. I was finally diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis when I was 55, my MRI showed that I had it for a long time. I first started having symptoms in my early 20's, my husband and I are 70 years old. We are trying to live as much life that we can everyday. We drove to Kansas City today and bought a new Challenger with all the bells and whistles. I have a mural project that I am starting to work on in my studio. Live a full life. Denice

I hope you heal quickly, our neighbor got hooked on drones. He joined a drone club and started doing competition flying. He has built a couple of hundred drones, they young members in his group got him started on it. He recently drove to a competition in Florida and won second place not bad for a retiree. Denice

Welcome Home! Turns out I have been here all along! I've been reading posts here forever, but feel it's past time for me to contribute. I love all things clay, especially the wonderful people I have met as a result of my passion for pottery. Out of retirement from a nearly 15 year hiatus I am setting up my 'retirement pottery'. Formerly (2002-2008) I owned Rare Earth Pottery in Stuart, FL. Prior to that I was introduced to clay in 1984 while attending Knox College in Galesburg, IL where I studied under Mr. Henry Joe. Now with the creative energy and passion of my partner, Miz Rivka, we will be collaborating on clay creations from Tin Shed Pottery. https://www.facebook.com/salmon.dave.del.rio

That must have been awful for your wife to lay in pain like that not knowing when someone would find her. I was amazed how many people that drove by and waved as I laying on the sidewalk like a fish out of water. I at least had a nice warm day to lay around. I have a new phone and ordered a tough case with a lanyard for it. I am thinking about getting a hiking stick when I walk in the yard and flower beds. It wouldn't have helped with this accident but may prevent future ones. I was taking photos of our 4'x5' Century Plant that has huge thorns, I am glad I missed it when I tripped. Denice

It's not quite that cold here, only got down to 15 last night. I am not going anyplace, I fell last week and still have a swollen knee. I went to emergency yesterday to get some X-rays, had to wait 5 hours to be seen. The clinic I go to sent me there. They X-rayed my big toe, wrist and knee and said no broken bones but my knee may need to be looked at later. I was taking photos of some plants in my front courtyard for a tile mural I was starting on. I stubbed my toe on some rock we had recently moved. I slid down the sidewalk watching my phone fly away. I laid out there for awhile until my husband came looking for me. Fortunately we had a old wheel chair in the basement. The hospital said that kind of accident could happen to anybody, feels like old age to me. Denice

Weather has changed already, 60 for the next two days and down to 8 on Wednesday. I am looking forward to spring, it's cold and wet but I don't have to cover plants. I was checking out some retirement artist colonies on-line, none of them were set up for potters. Marc's place sounds like a really good area to retire as far as weather is concerned. Denice

I have only seen 12 inches of snow in Kansas once and it shut down the town for several days. We got a half of inch of snow yesterday and ice fog bank this morning. It is suppose to warm up this week, weather forecast is always iffy here. Everyone thinks their state has the biggest temperature swings, but I read a National Weather review and they said Kansas wins. We don't get much snow but have a abundance of icy wind. Stay warm and don't shovel. Denice

Pleased with myself--had a good time peddling my wares at the First Friday Art Walk, Portland, Maine, a sidewalk event held on the main drag near the fine art museum. No registration fee, no tent required, close-in parking, & I had a helper!

I had all three kilns going today-two cone 10 gas glaze fires and a electric bisque-solar system near maxed out running the 48 amp constant load-solar offset 37kw on that fire today. still needed some grid power to get it done in 8 hours.
