Evelyne Schoenmann
Hello friends, I am back from Korea. Many thanks to Pres for the 2-weeks stand-in. He did it so well, I think I am going to Korea again (or elswhere).... When I asked after NCECA Kansas City what you would like to discuss in the QOTW of the coming year, Joel wrote: " I like questions that get into other peoples studios". Ok, here's a challenge: show us what's under your table in your studio (no, no, don't go and tidy up before taking the pic!).. I will post my pic tomorrow.... Have a happy week! LeeU
First table is for wedging & wet clay work-underneath is roller pin, mallet, foam, styro, crates full of tools etc. and a tray to catch clay dust when I sand, grind, or buff green/bisque work. Second table holds the slab roller and is used for glazing and dry work. Underneath it is a damp box, buckets of glaze and clay, and a storage bin. Third pic is of 2 tables on the porch and holds stuff for firing and spray glazing-underneath is glaze, vac, vac attachments, crates and shelves. The white spots outside are snow-yes, snow-yes, today!
glazenerd
$5 to anyone who can email me a pic of a clean (under the table) of their work space. Obviously confidentiality is paramount: seeing as though I will be posting it under the guise of it being mine. Ty. Nerd Welcome back Evelyne. LeeU, I use to like you until you posted those neat, clean, well organized, manicured pictures of your work area. You must be ashamed of yourself to be that tidy-- embarrassing I tell ya!! terrim8
found a big spider under there the other day but he was too fast to get a picture
JohnnyK
Just about finished putting the new studio together. No tables yet. I have also added a home-built extruder since these pics. With planting season here and the farm planting just about done, I'm looking forward to getting my hands on the clay again!
Denice
Such organized studios, the underside of my work tables has a organic feel, the stuff is creeping outwards. Mostly I have boxes of tile and buckets of clay and chemicals. It's amazing how much I have stuffed in there, I have a full 5'x6' mural in 3 tupperware tubs, a large box of roofing tiles that I made for mail box, and 4 tool boxes with art supplies. This doesn't include the weird stuff like a satellite dish, big spool of twine or the wooden cow yoke I kept to make a sign out of. Being a old hippie I am going to call my studio "Denice's Pot Shop". Denice
Evelyne Schoenmann
Lee and Johnny, my what clean and tidy and big studios and under-the-table space you have! Congrats. I am almost ashamed to show you mine. I am still pottering in my basement, not much space.... Nerd: Lee and Johhny will have to get those 5 bucks of yours! terrim8: spiders I have too, but they never show their face long enough because I always yell at them: " fat ugly beasts, go awaaaayyyy" Denice: I fear our under-the-table looks similar?! MatthewV
Taken at the end of a night -before- cleaning up. One table had an empty tote under it but I think I could still claim glazenerd's $5 :-) After six months of use, I cannot say the space is fully seasoned yet. Mark C.
My studio is khans in control I store 1,000 pounds of clay under wedging tables Under the slab roller is more clay and odd shaped items Under a side table is my stoneware wheel and spare glaze buckets as well as a spare wheel Splash pans and some oversize bats Every studio in above posts is razor clean compared to mine
Pugaboo
Here is the underside of my work table. Excuse the mess please I kept forgetting to take a picture after I cleaned up for the day so just grabbed a picture while in the middle of the work day mess. Oh and the Pug is always a mess time of day doesn't seem to matter!
Callie Beller Diesel
Normally, I keep everything out from under the tables and shelves because I don't like to have to move a bunch of stuff when I mop. But Maggie came to hang out with me today.
glazenerd
Matthew Very creative work tables in the first two pics- must say they caught my eye. Will be sending you some dry crystalline glaze shortly- no I have not forgotten: testing it on new clay first. Thought perhaps I would send you some test clay as well- solely for use with crystalline. I have an old monopoly game- $5 for everyone!! terrim8
I'll take $5 plus a hotel on Marvin Gardens.
Pres
The only true table in my studio is my wedging table, and that has a pile of recycling bags of clay under it. I have another work area, that is a commercial cabinet 6ft long on wheels with drawers and cabinets underneath. The drawers are on the rt end that is closest to my wheel so that I can reach right in to the drawer from the wheel to get the tool that isn't setting on the wheel at the time. best, Pres
LeeU
There is enough chaos in my head without extrapolating it to my studio environment. Just glad you didn't ask for a pic of my kitchen sink and counters!!! The more organized my work space is, the more the rest of the house looks like a tornado came through. Babs
one table stacked underneath with clay needing reclaimed, other table stacked underneath woith clay waiting to be used, Other table stacked underneath with newspapers, books, empty buckets. Will not post photos, don't want to contaminate you! Lurking also are the spiders, lizards and occasional snake.
terrim8
Yikes! And I thought that black spider under my table was bad. Maybe the lizard eats the spiders. Its a whole eco system. Maybe they need some water- better put the A.Orange water bowl under there for them.
GiselleNo5
Just about finished putting the new studio together. No tables yet. I have also added a home-built extruder since these pics. With planting season here and the farm planting just about done, I'm looking forward to getting my hands on the clay again! I have my suspicions that you have posted a "model" studio and not an actual working studio as nothing in your space appears to be clay-encrusted. Chilly
No table in my studio, therefore nothing hiding under it. The table at the centre has buckets of slip and re-cycling clay under it.
oldlady
lots of things under the horizontal surfaces in my studio. the problem is that they are overpowering me. too many things that i will "get around to someday" and not enough time to do anything with them. hope to straighten it out a little at a time over the summer. things will slow down in june. may needs 7 weekends to get in all the possible activities in the area. good thing you didn't ask about the stuff on the TOP of my table. haven't seen that for years. Pugaboo
Oldlady - yours looks like a good place for a treasure hunt! My fingers are itching to pull stuff out and see what goodies are there, kind of like my Grandmas attic as a kid... Best summer ever. T
Marcia Selsor
I haven't geared up yet from my travels, but here are some views. My two large tables are the same height, one is on wheels. The stable one has a shelf underneath with plaster molds and beneath that is clay and glaze storage mostly on wheels. Under the wheeled table is a large shelf with a big mold, foam, plastic. Under the slab roller is more clay storage and a litter box.
oldlady
i got tired of a litter box and had a bathroom built into the studio. it is really much easier for my old bones. don't you find crawling on the floor to use it tough on the joints? JohnnyK
Ok Giselle, I'm busted... As I said, I'm almost done planting the farm. Should be done this week. Then I can start messing up the studio. Actually it won't look much different than it does now except that there will be more ware on the shelves. Other plans include building a deck and putting a door where the big window is, and setting my motorized kickwheel on the deck for trimming in the warmer weather (there's plenty of that between now and November) JohnnyK
Evelyne Schoenmann
Wow and double wow! Most of the under-the-table pics are, well, just perfect under the table spaces, tidy and proper. Congrats! I love to see that my fellow potters take care of the space they are working in! Some really big studios out there! I wish I had one or the other studio to work in, and I wish I had oldlady's tool-table. I almost spilled my coffee, reading about the litter box, oldlady.... Really????
