Not sure widening the single line is necessary because: the foot ring is white, the inside handle is white, and the inside liner glaze is white: therefore balancing the piece IMO Placing the white band line in direct proximity of the bottom of the handle is also ideal.

I prefer the simplicity in this deco pattern. You have the granite look down oretty tight; which I also like.

I like the granite look the glaze has on this bowl. I also like the trimmed foot ring: gives it that added definition.
  4. After two hours of practice throwing this morning: I need to post in the "Help, I cannot center," and the "Help, I cannot pull walls, and the " Why in the he** did I buy a wheel anyway" threads.

Oh, Bill said, "if you are going to throw a lot, use soft clay". That was my primer. Now I'm loving it. Best wishes.

Yeah, I've been doing this for fifteen years, and I still run into issues. And many times, it isn't me, but the clay. I use a clay that is far too stiff. You'd think I'd learn, but yet...

Best of luck in your endeavor. You'll ge there.

Can you re-post in a larger format? having problems seeing details.
  7. Love the form, very unique expression. Glaze works well with it too. Good eye!
  8. Sometimes simple makes the loudest statement. I like the quiet elegance I see going on here.
  9. This is your signature piece kiddo. If I walked through a showroom of work without labels: I would automatically know this one was yours. This is the type of work that separates you from others: and you need to nurture it to its fullest application. That said, that also means it sits on shelves apart from other work. It also means the price is higher, because I know the hours it takes to produce it. Being able to "balance" a piece is an art of itself. By which I mean, the placement of the glaze, including colors, along with detailing does not over power or diminish the form. Sometime in the future when you write your book on this technique: i expect a signed copy.. Nerd
  10. After owning my first wheel for two weeks: I have gone through nearly 100lbs of clay centering and pulling simple forms. I actually pulled a ten pound cylinder today: my first attempt with that much clay. I have also been using my own custom porcleain and stoneware bodies: which I like alot better. (bias intended)

Yes, you will get there! :) Gotta start somewhere. With me it was very small cylinders that I started with, I didn't make decent bowls till about six months ago.

    Applause from the admiration section.
  16. Got it! and that explains that.... I am just use to seeing a much higher standard in definition from you- threw me off.
  17. I like where you are going with these pieces. I do however believe you need to highlight the detailing; fades into the back ground too much.
  18. I hope you realize that you have a very marketable product line going on here? Given where you live, I would only promote these in local high end music stores. Selling these in trade shows will not attract the right kind of buyers, nor will you get the proper sales price. Very creative..a niche market for sure. Attach a niche price to these niche pieces.
  19. One of the more creative pieces I have seen in some time. Even picked up the veining in the leaf- bravo! Detailing makes all the difference in the world, when you do this kind of work.
  20. Not sarcasm: merely pointing out the limitations that are often self imposed. If we as a trade celebrate randomness in a form: then we should also embrace it in a glaze.
  21. Went through all your most recent gallery posts. Excellent eye for color, and even more so for "balance." Good range of color, and most are easily mixed and matched. You have arranged your pieces in an "inventory" manner: able to check stock levels, and availability.. My conclusion: a professional potter has been born I have zero doubts about your success. Nerd
  22. Found a small Olympic gas kiln that I can use for crystalline reduction. Now I have something to test stoneware clay bodies in as well; the missing link.

I am going to the Hawthorne mill later this week. Trying to arrange meetings with Gold Art and Red Art plants. Many products available that are not sold to us.
