  2. Mt favorite part of Christmas. Only one stirring is me. Got two of my first thrown pieces in the kiln: waiting to see how they turned out. Merry Christmas.

Min: sadly that is a true comment.

Sounds good. Hope your christmas is bright and merry.

You just cannot help yourself-can you? Even when you purposely try to deform a piece: you throw with uniform non-conformity. I know you did not use a measuring device or calibers: but notice how evenly spaced and concentric your rings are? Your eye for proportion, will just not allow your hands to distort. Tom
  4. A very well organized dream at that.. enjoy!!

Are you signing/stamping these pieces (logo)? If not, you need to start. You are making them today; but their voice will be the loudest decades from now. Transitional Art Noveau revisited: partly modern, but with historical references. Part whimsical, but still art. It is uniquely your voice: labeling it as such is required IMO. Good cobalt shifts BTW.

Sing this song while you make pots. "Give me love, give me clay, give me wheel to throw, Give me hope that my kiiiiln won't go coooooold," and repeat.

Every once in awhile I throw: to take a break from testing.

I can understand that preference. It has that 1920-30"'s crock look to it. Give some consideration to some modern colors for the one on the left. Strictly as a point of selling, profits; the one on the left would also draw the modern crowd if done in monochromatic schemes.
  9. There is something to be said for a simple form that is executed correctly.

Congrats on the sale. Excellent piece to break the retail ice with. I like the height on that piece as well. Just figured out what I like it. Even though earthy tones were used: the shape is more modern; more proportionate. I know about trees; been hacking my way through the stoneware formulation jungle.

The piece on the left works best for me. Grey / taupe is a tough color to incorporate into a pottery piece; even harder to blend to other colors. Interesting that you used the deepest color to break the color symmetry. Even more interesting, you did not use a straight line to do it!. I visualize this piece as sweeping up from the bottom. So I wonder how the handles would look with the arch sweeping upward, instead of down? (convex instead of concave) Nerd

You have a rather unique talent. Take the time to market it, develop it.

Jade green hey? The right call for this oriental piece. One of these days, when I get done playing with clay formulas: will spend more time throwing it.
  14. Feel bad for the property owners... has to be hard to watch it consume your life.
  15. Lady: I like the fact that your display is not linear in presentation. The off-set angles and lines actually draws the eye visually.
  16. Celia: I find your work to be very artistic and inspiring. Using a pastel glaze is also smart on your part: deep colors would over-power these forms. Nerd
  17. Still think these need to be in a museum. Ya, I know: beat this drum before.
  18. Nancy: If you would, keep us updated with finished pics. I can see a very profitable niche market with this technique: high end-designer market. Remarkable skill-set. Nerd
  19. I am off until Monday for Thanksgiving. Loaded my 16CF with all the thrown items to be bisq'ed. Threw the breaker- no power! Neighbors pole barn runs off my transformer, they shut it off this morning so he could unprade his power. It is raining, so I guess I will post in the forums all day!

  20. This is my pick; love the colors.
  21. I assume you are seeing bubbles in all the glazes you have studied? Also saw the scale you used in another pic: can see where that would be handy. Perhaps you should start a glaze thread with these pics: many find the close ups interesting.

Matthew: I have not forgotten about the glaze. Yet another reason I bought a wheel; I had no real means to test glaze run on vertical surfaces in real applications. I have made nearly 40 pieces: most of them miss the mark; but I can still glaze test them.

Matthew: Never realized you had a modern eye. I could see those in every apartment in LA, done in monochromatic schemes. Nerd

Love the optical illusion the form, in conjunction with the glaze creates. Changing the form or the glaze would also change the illusion.
