    Small Spoon Rest

a reminder to not leave the wooden spoon too close to the flames! love the burned black edges.
  4. thank you, but this will never be glazed. it is going to be bisqued at 04 and i will roll out slabs on it to become actual work. they will be glazed, probably green..............
  5. babs, the long one measures 19 1/2 by 8 inches. the ginko is almost round and nearly covers my 21 inch shelf. measures 19 1/2 at biggest.

    2017 new mold, brocade geranium

found this tiny plant in tampa. nursery owner said it was stunted by lack of rain all summer. biggest leaf only 1 inch. rolled out slab for mold.
  7. From the album: 2017 new mold, brocade geranium

made this ginko leaf mold so i have variety in my most popular design. i can place clay slab in any position and allow for dragonfly impression at various locations on each finished pot.
  8. From the album: 2017 new mold, brocade geranium

last of the leaves and the shape of the mold allows me to add another dragonfly in the empty section. flexibility is what i want with this mold. i can make small squares using the first end and butterdishes and trays using the rest of it. now to dry it totally flat between drywall sheets. they are turned about twice a day until totally dry. this will be fired to 04 and used to give texture to slabs that will be made into trays, etc. rolling the slabs to pick up the leaf texture is done with a foam backing under the mold to absorb the pressure.
  9. From the album: 2017 new mold, brocade geranium

tiny balls of clay will be put into the holes where the leaf stems were. tedious but i only have to do this once.
  10. From the album: 2017 new mold, brocade geranium

ran out of leaves so i had to remove some of the first ones rolled into the clay and reuse them. this mold will be used to make long trays. i want the pattern to be at only one end of the long trays and have enough room to make adjustments in placement.
  11. From the album: 2017 new mold, brocade geranium

started putting leaves at the edge of mold. left space for placement of dragonfly once the mold is finished. the space allows me to put the dragonfly in lots of different positions while making the finished pot so each one is different. impressing the dragonfly and modifying the image gives variety and a place to put underglaze to color just the dragonfly. if i pressed the dragonfly now, the impression would be in relief on the finished pot and not give an opportunity to color it separately.
  12. From the album: 2017 new mold, brocade geranium

found a stunted plant at a nursery in tampa. owner said no rain all summer caused leaves to be less than 1 inch. thought it would make a good mold so rolled out and pounded a slab.
  13. yes, you are learning a skill, not making a product. once you have developed the skill, the fish will swim.
  14. wish i could paint! love your bird!
  15. we see lots of kilns called "Sitter", many, many of them. once you find all the electrical info on the plate, list the name, interior dimensions, and all the electrical info on that plate. say it has a kiln sitter and call the square things showing inside the kiln "posts" and the flat things are "shelves" or "half shelves". count them and include that info in your ad. and the stand it is on. take everything out of the interior, it is bad to put weight on the interior and on the top so keep it clean. it is in good condition. put some lights on when you take photos and if you have a camera it might help to reach down and hold the camera lens so people can see what the wires inside those dark grooves look like. straight up and down coils are perfect. if they are angled over as though they are falling the kiln needs new elements, something a buyer will want to know. ask your mom how high she fired, get a cone number. there are two cones 6, one is actually 06 and is much cooler that cone 6. make sure you get the right one. some people look at ads for new kilns and foolishly think about half that for a used one. not so. $200 sounds reasonable for a buyer and if you need to clear it out, that will bring a buyer faster than a high price.
  16. i cannot add a like, just as well, it should be a LOVE not a like. he is so well done, his eye follows the viewer in every shot. WELL DONE, GUINEA!
  17. what would you like to see in that bowl, celia? it needs something as special as it is.
  18. thank you, Callie! very nice kiln and pots inside it. aren't you lucky to have it available?

    small florida studio

it all fits in a 10x16 foot shed.
  20. From the album: small florida studio

new slabroller extension and cleaning up the excess that had collected on the back table makes studio neater and easier to use. additional drywall sheets added on new tabletop storage rack adds 1/3 more space for finished work waiting for firing. there are 4 of the closet organizers, each with ten shelves of drywall. only 2 drawers with supplies, all the rest are drywall approx 18x24 inches. except for lizard poop, studio stays surprisingly clean.
  21. From the album: small florida studio

extending table for slab roller gives lots of working space. leg folds up, tabletop is stored when firing. lots of additional space.
