  1. thank you all. yes, babs, i wanted a transparent green that would enhance texture, not cover it up. took this to Alexandria Va show over the weekend. sold other things but not this one. it is thin by stoneware standards but similar in thickness to commercially made platters. many people said they liked the work shown, first sale was the tree in a square. it is nice to hear after all the work to get to here.
  2. i am sure paragon has the question asked many times referring to the number on the kiln sitter and not what is on their label located somewhere near that sitter. it is the usual description of a person who knows nothing about a kiln just inherited, found in a storage unit or wherever it has been for years. if you look for a used kiln in any of the common locations, ebay, craigslist, etc, you will see people referring to having a Sitter (brand) kiln.
  3. call paragon in texas. their website shows a lot of info and their people know more. just be sure to talk to someone who is knowledgeable and was not hired yesterday.

    2016 fall pots

new work with tree of life cut by terry buffington, pugaboo.
  5. From the album: 2016 fall pots

center tray is done at 5% copper carb, the others at 3 or 4. happier with the 5% but it has to be applied thickly.
  6. thank you, i have added more copper to make it darker yet still transparent green. the thickness and location of the veins in the leaves and are part of the reason i use them. the heart shape is the added attraction. i believe that color is either 3 or 4% copper. i now use 5. see last photo this series.
  7. From the album: 2016 fall pots

to re-fire to the original cone number, here cone 6, i try to put things in the bottom which is the cool spot. you can see that there is only one row of element down there, the bottom shelf has 2 sets of posts, 2 inch for the half shelf and 41/2 for the next full shelf. i know the firing evens out at the end but somehow i just feel better knowing there is a slower rise at the bottom. this kiln load was mixed with re-fire pieces and glazed greenware throughout. nothing bad happened to anything.
  8. From the album: 2016 fall pots

these pieces had come out too pale after their original firing. the green has finally been corrected and i now know that i have to put twice as much as i think on a piece and then add more. the central plate did not warp on its edges. i think it helps to center it and put other things nearby to avoid a hot or a cold spot that might cause warping. maybe???
  9. From the album: 2016 fall pots

ellen currans showed me how to add detail with a handle having the same texture as the center of the platter. it worked very well here, thank you ellen!! you can see the results of uneven spraying in the sort of wavy dark and light spots on the outer rim. too wet.
  10. From the album: 2016 fall pots

this big, flat platter stayed flat and it's rim did not warp. i think that is because i put the smaller ones around it fairly evenly so there was not a hot spot in one place. the handles add a bit to the piece and the next shot is a detail of the handle.
  11. From the album: 2016 fall pots

this is the 5% copper carb in my new glaze. i re-sprayed it heavily and then added more. i think i have 4 of these now. big show this weekend, hope they sell.
  12. which one, the Oribe or the new green below?
  13. it will work well on interiors. i have a bowl with a similar glaze that i bought in the 70s. the potter put it on only the top third of the exterior and left the raw clay below. i still love it, cracks and all.
  14. nerd, i just peeked at the refiring and see that the increase to 5% copper and a very heavy application may do the trick. stuff on the top shelf is dark enough. WOO HOO!!!!!
  15. what do you think Antiques Roadshow experts would say about your pot? (smiling emoji goes here)
  16. From the album: 2016 fall pots

this shape, square, plate is a fast seller at $16, the circular things go into a basket labeled "little treasures" and generates a lot of interest and many sales.
  17. From the album: 2016 fall pots

very strange thing happened to the butterdishes you see stacked here. notice the sides. they have been re-fired to increase the green on the edges. nothing happened though i added lots of green glaze. someone talk to me about wax candles with "snow" on them. i think whatever chemical is used to create that frothy "snow" is affecting the glaze fire. i know.............too hot for wax to influence. however, the results are here and on other things as well.
  18. From the album: 2016 fall pots

the top design is the one i plan to use with the tree of life. thank you, terry buffington for cutting the tree for me. as you can see, you did a good job and it comes out fine.
  19. From the album: 2016 fall pots

ginko leaf tray done in Oribe green. recipe is not stable. proved with the vinegar test. tray sold to same person who bought the tree of life rectangular tray. new glaze on bottom tray. different recipe done with the new copper carbonate that is not like the old stuff. much weaker color. lots of re-fires with this glaze. have to get used to pouring it on thickly with my sprayer. have increased amount of copper to 5% since this piece.
  20. From the album: 2016 fall pots

top tray sold immediately. bottom one still available. that one has slip sprayed on entire leaf covered tray and the leaves pulled off. clear glaze on top with dragonfly in mayco stroke & coat.
  21. From the album: 2016 fall pots

glaze still a problem. copper carb just not very strong since new delivery. there is glaze on the pot but the color is weak. this is being refired.
  22. i might be having a senior moment. is this pot really old or is it an example of what you are able to make to look old?
  23. FUN! i do something similar but smaller and on a metal rod to put in flowerpots. try some as cows, horns and all.
  24. wonderfully exotic, did you get an order from Cleopatra?
  25. attention all commercial pottery companies, HIRE THIS DESIGNER!
