  1. There's a skip full of IFB for free. Now to work out how many I can fit in my car/garden.

Thank you for the offer but it is a bit of a drive from here :D They are rebuilding a hydrogen kiln at work that has about 6 brick thick walls so there's plenty for me to sort through and find the good ones.

Yea, found a job making/testing ceramic colour standards. We just glaze tiles in different specific colours and sell them to people to calibrate their sensors/machines.

I need to catch up with my glaze testing too, got distracted with a new job and lost the momentum.

  6. Help! I'm trying to make a large  circular slab piece ( on request) which is around 35cm across. I have attempted this 3 times and am now  able to successfully bisque fire it, but during glaze firing ( to 1250) it has split, every time. Any suggestions that I might be able to implement, given I am a hobby potter using an electric kiln with preset firing programmes..?

Hi Catherine, not quite sure how you ended up posting to my profile but you should start a new thread in Studio Operations and Making Work - https://community.ceramicartsdaily.org/forum/22-studio-operations-and-making-work/ should be an orangeish button saying "start new topic"

  8. Moved!

We made it all the way to our new town* ok this last Sunday.

Most all our stuff is in storage whilst we stay with our Son and look for a new house. The movers left my wheel and a box of clay near the front, so I might set up to start making greenware** if I get bored, heh. ...no idea where my ribs, sponges, stick, chamois an' all are. However, this town has what appears to be a fully appointed Ceramic Supply store! !! It's open on Tuesday and Saturday, I want to go to there...

This was a nice space to work in.
That big window supplies a lot of light.
Lots of shelving, just enough counter space.
The next space, I'll need some heating/cooling, for it gets both hotter and colder here than Los Osos...

The back yard was coming along.
Just about everything needs a pruning.
I hope the new owners keep it up and, And, keep the bird feeder full...
There are many of the same small/songbirds here in Chico. Interesting that the House Finch here has a slightly different song than those in Los Osos.

    *Chico, California
Where IMCO is just over a hundred miles away; I'll be able to make a clay run on little more than a whim!

**I'd smashed a hundred fifty plus hours of work into buckets for reclaiming later on.

Beautiful garden. You never know how much stuff you have until you pack it up and move it  I wish you well in finding a new home.

  9. We had our computer bite the dust on our trip to Galveston TX,  we paid the computer tech  $100 to unload our old files to the new one.   I had all of my glaze formulas printed out and in a binder in my studio,  my husband hadn't saved anything.    Denice

Good that you managed to save the files. Luckily I use Linux and you can boot into the operating system from a USB stick and sort it out from there otherwise I might have been doing the same and taking the drives to the local tech.

  10. Once a thread is archived can it be undone? I know I should probably just start a new one >.< but I like my old ones.

I agree ^_^ not that I have anything to post in the bubble thread yet but I have plans to. If it is too complicated I can always link to the archived thread in the new one.

Looking forward to being able to post some stuff here again :D  Few months and I should be set up. Have two weeks off work the end of next month as the factory is shutting down so plan to be moving in by then.

Both :D I mean the reduction kiln is still a massive WIP so that will probably be on the back burner. Saying that so is my electric kiln controller. The only kiln that wasn't bodged by me needs a bit more juice so once I get that sorted it will be easy electric firings.

  15. Finished four chapters, have drawn several charts and graphs. About 35% done! but have most outlines done. Took off Febuary and most of this month, have to go back shortly.

  16. Morning all. This is probably a basic question to many of you , but my Chemistry knowledge is not great and I would appreciate some help. Is it possible to change an earthenware clear gloss glaze (firing to 1100 centigrade) to a higher firing stoneware glaze (firing to 1200 centigrade) without knowing the formula of the original glaze. I am sure this question is answered in Digital Fire or somewhere on this forum, but I am feeling a bit lazy to search through- got too much playing in the studio to do!

Have you tried firing it up to 1200 and seeing if it works? Some glazes can have a wide 'workable' range.

Haha I like that it is now orbiting the sun for the next billion years. It was his personal car if a bit of clever marketing. Also enjoyed the nod to Douglas Adams.

  23. Finally, I got 8 items up in my website Shop. That means I now know how to do the next 100--all the behind-the-scenes integrated detail work involved, since no, you don't "just" upload a picture and slap a price on it!

  24. I am missing the moderators and key resource/info people who are (recently) not here anymore---the place just ain't the same.
