Chilly got a reaction from GEP in Smallifying pictures to post with Win10
A bit late to the party, but I don't have a magnifying glass on the bottom row.  On laptop (Windows 10) or new desktop (Windows 11).
I do know how to crop and re-size, was an IT Trainer for many years.
I spent over 20 years writing courseware and reference materials, and one of the impossible things is knowing where to start with instructions, and how any individual's computer is already set up.
Kudos to anyone trying to help, but you have to know what your customer has/knows already.

I was hoping for some pics of people's studio views, like all those wonder food pics from people's kitchens LOL  I guess windows are in short supply maybe.  Well, how about just some pics from inside your studios? (Lee's bored tonight.)

Chilly got a reaction from Rae Reich in QotW: How far do you have to drive to get to a ceramics supply store?
About an hour drive to nearest, or 5 hours to Stoke-on-Trent (aka "The Potteries") with a number of suppliers.
Pottery association has cheaper clay, but is about 75 minutes drive, or I wait until Summer Potter's Camp and collect it there.

Chilly reacted to Roberta12 in QotW: What 5 tools are essential for throwers? For handbuilders?
for throwing, a bat, a yellow rib, a wooden rib, a needle tool, sponge.    Handbuilding....wareboard, slab roller, red rib, needle tool, templates
When I cleaned out a studio for a long time potter's family after he had passed, he had 5 tools.  That was it.  There wasn't endless choices of ribs and knives and sponges and stuff.  A wooden handmade caliper, one wooden rib, one handmade needle tool, one small chunk of chamois and a wire.  That was it.  He had worked for years and years with only those tools..

A diver friend called with 4 fresh crabs for us a few days ago-ate them same day they came to surface,
Live backed them and slipped and really cut my palm badly--some antibiotic cream and super glue I was able to center and throw pots the next day. These guys are tasty served hot out of the steamer with hot melted butter
Last night it was tamales another treat. Potters need to eat well.

Chilly got a reaction from Callie Beller Diesel in QotW: Mixers: where do you get your recipes/formulas for glazing?
Glazes Cone 6 - book by Michael Bailey - it's written by a Brit, using British obtainable ingredients.
Much as I like the other 2 classics, they use ingredients that we don't always have access to.

@Chilly have it, like it, has alternative information not in some others. As to resources on Cone 6, I have most of them, and find good material in all of them.

I tried all variations of angles, and more water/less water

    but not this

Rolled handles and a template to dry them on in the required curve was the best I got to.  Then stopped making mugs.

I reformulated your recipe using Gillespie Borate. Instead of using a hypothetical analysis for the China clay I used Grolleg for both the reformulated recipe and in the original. Let me know if you use a different kaolin / china clay and I can redo it. I used the chem analysis from Glazy for the original recipe using Calcium Borate frit from the link @Magnolia Mud Research provided above.  This looks okay on paper but if you try it please make sure and do a small test batch before using it on actual pots.
Linda Bloomfield ^6 Clear with Gillespie Borate - untested  No dolomite needed, its getting enough magnesium from the Gillespie.

Hi Neil, Yes they work great. They fit perfectly in the grooves I didn’t even need pins to hold them which is good considering she’s probably a dinosaur in great shape. Thank You because I got the advice to contact Euclid’s from an older post I seen! THANK YOU!!

I think I’ve figured out what I’m going to do. I used 60-80 mesh granulated manganese, in the percentages shown below. Interesting that the speckles are sometimes larger depending on the glaze, because the glaze can cause them to spread out a bit. The 0.2% test looks the closest to my previous claybody. But there have been times in the past when I wished they were a bit more sparse. 0.1% is too sparse though, so I think the right answer for me is 0.15%.

thank you, chilly and LT,  can't take the test yet, chilly.   the oddest thing happened.   your link led me to a great answer but someone put an ad about  prostate cancer with graphics all over that page.  i just did not have time to wade through the setup.  besides, i have 1000 things to do today before leaving for florida for the winter.  it is 2 degrees above freezing today.
i will read the link when i get there and have a moment without a crisis.
