  1. I spend my mornings drinking coffee and going through the gallery postings. I encourage all members to check out recent postings. The recent work posted by Pugaboo, Giselle, Joseph, 1515Art, and others is really impressive.

I agree. I spent a little time on there yesterday!!! Outstanding work, friends.

I love checking the gallery. Check it almost every day.

glazenerd, thank you... I agree and think many inspirational mornings and wonderful cups of coffee start right here.

  2. Pug- I would say you found your artistic voice. A very pleasant, creative, imaginative, fun, and colorful voice!!!
  3. Wish I had some artistic talent, but I do not. Great detailing work.

    Saggar Pot

Always interesting to see what a "natural" firing produces.
  5. Interesting Roberta, I am curious about the form details. Did you put the lines in to catch glaze run, for aesthetics, or both? I like the effect of the copper increasing in color depth as it runs: nice touch. Very nice indeed!
  6. Have a poundeach of macaloid and VeeGum-T coming. Test these for now and figure out a technical grade later.

5th attempt at red in oxidation @ cone 6.

  8. You have the beginnings of making a niche market for yourself. Very unusual to see this type of work in the clay arts: which makes it all the more desirable. Will be watching to see where you take this skill set.

I like the playfulness and vibrancy of these pieces. I generally shy away from primary colors in general: but these work for me. Good detailing on all your pieces. Should be proud of your work-very well executed.

    ComaT10

Joseph: yes I am in fact: usually I am not. Only thing I need to do is dial in the ramp hold temp to produce round floret crystals. T10 is a tank, the tile did not warp, which is common with standard porcelain. There is a distinct difference in field color as you noted: the standard cone 10 has much higher iron content. Going to throw some V-gum in and send you down a batch to play with. More than curious to see how your celadon works on it.

    ComaT10

    From the album: Clay Tests

Small test tile is formula T10 Coma Clay-crystal size 2.5". Bottom is cone 9 on regular Laguna porcelain- crystal size 1.75". Note also the clarity of the field color, and glaze checking is resolved.

  13. I mixed 10lbs of Coma Clay, bisq yesterday. Pull them out of the kiln, slather some glaze on them, fire em up. First time to seriously test crystal results.

Mark: Coma is the name I gave my custom porcelain tile recipe. Coma as in - no memory.

  14. I really like the form, detail, decoration, and execution in this piece. Very nice!
  15. Get to go back to work after the Doc sidelining me for three weeks.

Accident in 2001 coming back to haunt me. Impact tore my pancreas and spleen, among other things. This too will pass.

  16. Could not agree more Mark- beautiful work.
  17. Same thing here, good color shift from vibrant to soothing. Easy to imagine combinations with whites, greens, blues, and pastel variations of tans.

Still trying to wrap my head around that myself. Do not have a real explanation at the moment- very odd indeed.

Love the granite look this firing produced- good job.

    Narrow Tray

Lee: Next time you run this glaze, try adding 0.25 up to 0.50% alumina, it will help greatly with glaze flow. Crystalline glaze is extremely fluid by nature. I like the softness of this piece, good work! Tom

    5Neo

Roberta: fired in with the other examples shown. The only logical reason I can come up with is the NEO has a very high COE in and of itself. Trying to track some info on it, TY for the kind words.

    5Neo

    From the album: Clay Tests

5% Neodymium (rare earth). Color typical, however COE issue created for some reason.

    3Ni12Mno

    From the album: Clay Tests

3% Nickel ox plus 1/2% manganese. Complete color shift, blue crystals not present.

    3Cu24Co

    From the album: Clay Tests

Coma Clay: 3% copper carb plus 0.25% cobalt ox. Colorants flipped: typically the field would be more blue and the crystals green.

  25. There is something about this piece that draws me into it. A sense of illusion that makes me question my perception. Which is why I like it so much. Great work!!
