  1. Made some breakthroughs in my glaze work this week. Finally going to have some stability in the final product which is what I needed to move forward in production quantities for online, future shows and galleries!

This is very true. I like a good journey, lots of interesting discussion and things to see along the way.

Do you have plans on what you are going to fire? Going to go back to reduction or take the electric leap?

  4. Kiln was sold probably before posted here. So I didn't get it! Dang!

  5. Working on a soft blue glaze today to celebrate the gender of my baby on the way. I think I might do some limited edition work in a very soft robins egg blue since that is my favorite mason stain to date. Finally getting some time in the studio again. Life is crazy.

October 16th. Yea I guess this is how potters do the gender reveal lol? I don't really know. I just felt like making a nice satin blue glaze to go with my work. Got like 40 tiles in the kiln right now and some nuka test with wood ash.

Two boys! Both should have never been here according to the doctors and my treatments! But life is abundant and we are rejoicing!

Thanks for the CONGRATULATIONS! How have you been?

  8. Had a long discussion with the math professor from SIU-E about writing math equations for crystalline glaze: she thought it was doable. Interesting!

  9. That moment you have been making jars with a gallery and also a lid inner gallery that are so perfect that when you wax them they no longer fit inside of each other... perfection. Then that moment where you realize you forgot to turn on a preheat for your greenware to fire in a glaze firing and remember at 540F before you have a terrible disaster in your kiln and you stop it and vacuum it the next day. Thank you Jesus.

Yes! I single-fire a good bit of work. Sometimes I bisque and sometimes I single fire it just depends. It would have been fine if I had turned on my preheat. Haha.

I just finished cleaning it. L&L so nice. A pocket knife to lift the elements up slightly and vacuum under them and it took me about 30 minutes to make it look brand spanking new again. But yes. I am very lucky. It would have destroyed my kiln. There were shards of clay covered in glaze everywhere. I would have had to replace tons of bricks, element holders and elements. I am very fortunate today!

  11. In Shanghai airport on my way to Australia for Christmas and the only thing that I can seem to access is this forum ;D. Not blocked by their fire wall.

  12. Going to run some line blends today. I want to matte down my standard white glaze slightly. I want it to be more of a sheen satin and not a solid glossy glaze. Taking a much needed day break from my studies.

Min, my studies went well. I graduated with a degree in economics, straight A's my last semester in the hardest classes I've ever taken. It has been an interesting week. I just got accepted into a Masters for in Teaching Middle Grades Education. So I will be doing even more studying over the next 1.5 years. But I am excited to get back to what I always wanted to do before cancer beat me down a few times. Teaching Kids MATH! WOoo. I will hopefully get on here more to read all the good stuff happening here. I won't be doing a lot of pottery still, going to make some bowls for a fundraiser for a big wood kiln down in south Georgia. Probably going to make those tomorrow.

Hey TOM! I might throw your porcelain tomorrow!

  21. I have made a section on my Pinterest Clay board on Kilns & Firing, specific to the anagama kiln that John Baymore "made happen" for the New Hampshire Intute of Art. Check it out https://www.pinterest.com/LeeUstinich/clay-kilns-and-firing/fushigigama-nhia-wonder-kiln-at-sharon-art-center-/

  24. Well, it is Christmas Day. Had family in Jordan and South Korea finishing their Masters. Between that and passing the flu around for months: today is Christmas.
