It is nice enough in the studio today that I have the outside door open...and I can mop without fear of creating an ice rink!
-
I may ave to have my long underwear surgically removed...I think it is starting to "root".
-
I'll have to wait until late evening to open the latest gas firing...unless I can find a little robot-guy in a fire suit to squeeze through a peep hole and broadcast pictures from inside...OK, so I still get excited to see new work, so shoot me ! *grin*

And.........
What happened?
-
Opened the kiln Saturday morning. It was a good Cone 10 reduction firing. There are at least a couple of pieces that I feel really good about. I will be starting over with a new batch of Ohio White...not happy with that mistake.

I have that uneasy feeling that I accidentally added 2x the amount of Bentonite to a 5 gal mix of Ohio White...And I won't know the exact effect until I test it. Pooh!

Always hate those niggling doubts. Bother you until proven otherwise.
-
You do so have to concentrate during some aspects of ceramics - glaze mixing being one. For me, when attaching & refining delicate clay stencils (cut from 1/8" thin slabs) to the rim of bowls - the slightest loss of focus and I can catch the stencil and it's irreparably broken. As an inexperienced thrower, I also have to avoid throwing when I'm tired! Hope you can salvage the glaze!!
-
Do you have a little Easy-Bake kiln to test your batch with? Man, I wish I had one of those little babies!
-
I am starting to really like slab constructed mugs...with all this practice, one might conclude that I "under-stein" the process *groan*

Point taken, Babs ~

Bad Pun! Sit! lie Down.
-
Oh Diesel, I blame the bad puns on that new, earthy coffee...you know, the one that was 'ground' this morning (I'll go sit in the corner now)
-
It seems like such simple thing...pouring glaze through the spout of a tea pot back into the glaze bucket. It takes real talent, however, to consistently land one big splash as a direct hit to the crotch. It is not a pretty picture
-
Just watched the DVD from Ceramic Arts Daily...Jason Bige Burnett's "The Graphic Pot". I can definitely recommend it...and for anyone from Colorado, it may not be what you think it is
-
LOL yea its visual they wouldnt like it.. heard you have a hole in the top of your foot, the Romans do that to you? Pilate , he will let them use anything now days.guess its better than a bowie knife
-
Oh Paul! Do you think that is ALL we think about here in Colorado?? Hmmmmm??
-
It's all Washington thinks about... Well, besides meth, in the middle of the state.
-
-
Just so you know... a sharpened needle tool, when knocked off a countertop, can put a hole in one's foot. No need to try this for yourself, trust me

Lots of finger pokes here, I'm ready to mop my studio. All of my work tables and wheel are clean. I'm ready to mess it up again. Denice
-
I've never dropped one, on my foot, but I was mixing my classroom relcaim bin by hand, and felt a poke. I took my hand out, and it was sticking through the top layer of skin. No blood, just a discussion with the class...
-
Protect your feet, they're what gets you to your studio
-
Cleaning the studio. I should kick the person who made such a mess. Oh. Wait.

I'm pleadin' the Fifth on my studio's current state. Course...my studio is my living room... >.<'
-
That guy must have dropped by my place of late. .. no pictures please!
-
My studio is pin neat. Too cold for it to get mussed up.
-
Taking down a pop-up market event today...turned out better than I anticipated and feels good to be packing up a lot less than I stocked.
-
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!
-
I wonder if I leave extra cookies and milk out for Santa if he'll bring along some elves to clean up the studio. *big sigh*

I'd settle for a path "clean" through the studio wide enough to squeeze my derriere ~
-
send em my way when their done...
-
Mmmm. I may amend my Christmas wish.
-
I just received my first, ever, shipment of Mizzou Castable...in no small part because I just like to say "Refractory". First project - peephole plugs. Wish me luck!

"Diesel" gave us the day "eutectic" you must use it in conversation with everyone you talk to today..
-
ooops "word of the day" ha ha yea i forgot a word like eutectic.
-
I'll definitely follow the dialectic about eutectic...the "eutectic dialectic
-
One more decal firing and one more lustre firing and I am off to help Santa. Ho, Ho, Ho!
-
I was showing a lady my son's soda fired work at the pop-up market yesterday. She seemed truly interested. Then she asked, "Coke, or Pepsi?" It took me a second before I cracked up

Watch out for the "making pots" when speaking to hard of hearing folks. They think you are dealing!
-
Pres, I already have enough problems with images of Udu's...too many seem to think they resemble large bongs!
-
take any vase and put a small hole in it, or even turn a teapot lid upside down and what do you get with a little ingenuity. 36 yrs of teaching made me a skeptic if it was questionable.
-
Finished a long day of working a holiday pop-up market... this may be what clay feels like as it is slammed against a wedging table.
-
First time to run a FaceBook Ad to promote a pop-up gift market...pretty pleased so far. I'll post full report later.
-
Did you feel it was promoted to the right people? I have seen a few things about paid likes for pages being a bad idea. Not so sure about how ads work.
-
I have targeted specific zip codes, age range, and financials. I should know more right after Christmas when the ads stop running.
-
excited to hear this- I have thought about but never pulled the trigger

-
Packing up for a month-long, pop-up, botique market with 20 other artists featuring only high-end pieces...good thing it is in the 'high-end' side of town

Happy Thanksgiving! I count my friends here on the forum as something to be 'thankful for'.

-
So many things to be thankful of thanks to all here

One of those breakthrough days when sketches seem to make sense...anxious to get started.
-
It was a good (long) day. Fired the gass kiln. Finished one bisque kiln. Fired a decal batch. Loaded another bisque. And for fun did a raku firing. I think I'm getting the hang of this

It is end-of-the-semester Crunch Time...when students finally realize that firing isn't done in a microwave and wet clay doesn't turn into glazed ware overnight.
-
I love the mental image. Microwave, indeed!
-
Bloody hell, I wish...
-
It is the truth. Last night I had a student walk up to me carrying a freshly constructed, hand-built, life-size boot that was probably 3/4" thick at the thinnest point...and she asked, "Will this get into tomorrow's bisque firing, I really need to glaze it over the weekend?". *headspin*
