NFallon
From our UK friends at the BBC, a new series is beginning this fall that follows the baking competition that is also produced by the same team. The link below has the story. YouTube has a promotional video. Search the title of this post. http://realscreen.com/2015/09/17/sky-vision-love-shape-pottery-format-for-mipcom/ For us outside the U.S. we will need to wait next year to catch it. jolieo
OMG I would love to see that show. I bet potters are not as goofy as the the other reality show contestants. Why do we have to wait.... Thank you for showing us
High Bridge Pottery
I applied for this, only got a phone interview and no further. Met another potter who got to the final stage, said it was a lot of traveling to London on short notice. Glad I never got that far as I would have been to complicated getting to London on a days notice. Will be having a watch
Guest JBaymore
I bet potters are not as goofy as the the other reality show contestants. I hope that they don't do the same garbage that the US type so-called "reality shows" do. They select people to participate that DO have issues and are goofy and unstable and such on purpose. They deliberately set up conflicts that they can see coming as they select the mix of people / personalities, and then put together scenarios that they KNOW will somehow "backfire" given the mix of people they put together......... and therefore make what they think will be "good TV". best, .................john

jolieo
So that's how they do it! I have only watched snippets, I work in a large restaurant, got drama every day. I like it when I learn something so those shows bore me. I would LOVE to see this on drama or not...
Celia UK
I recently met someone involved in this show who was impressed by the integrity of the producers. It will be interesting to see how it turns out after editing. Hopefully it will be more about the potting than the characters.
bciskepottery
Pottery without the characters is like . . . mass produced wares.
oldlady
evelyne, you have not had a tv for a long time. the control knob that used to say ON and OFF is now a single tiny spot probably painted silver grey on a black background and it says POWER. and you guess if it is on or off if there is no tiny little light on. Joseph Fireborn
I don't watch much tv. I did watch a few snippets of the baking show that this is coming from. It seemed ok. My wife is big into cooking so I catch some of the shows every now and then. It didn't seem like your standard reality show. So here's hoping its good. Will be interesting to see what they do for challenges.
dondon
I also applied to the 'Great British Pottery Throw Down programme' by Love Productions and can proudly say I got all the way through to the filming day at a lovely pottery in London!! Whaahoo! we had a great time and the film crew were lovely, but we were sworn to secrecy so cannot let too much out. I did n't quite make it to the last ten but still, I'll be glued to the box on Tuesday nights at 9 BBC2 - can't wait.

You would not worry about the 'drama' if you were watching the British baking show ... Which is still in the quarter finals here ... the respect and low key friendship of the various participants is a total 180 from our back biting. In baking and pottery the results are fairly self evident ... It works or it doesn't.
High Bridge Pottery
Watched the first episode this morning, had some weird sexual tone throughout. Maybe just me who doesn't get it.
Colby Charpentier
Watched the first episode this morning, had some weird sexual tone throughout. Maybe just me who doesn't get it. The official vods won't play for a non-UK ip address (including vpns). Any work around or different source?

Celia UK
I have to agree with you Joel - what was with all that sexual innuendo? Spoiled it for me somewhat. Clearly various aspects of making this for TV make it 'unrealistic' in terms of what it's really like being a potter, but I nonetheless enjoyed it and will be watching future episodes! I felt sorry for the potters whose work cracked - clearly this was due to them speeding up the drying process to suit the schedule - and for some reason if anyone said as much, it was edited out and a comment about the clay not being prepared sufficiently, was left in. I'm no expert and not brilliant at preparing my clay etc. but I've never had a piece crack like these did.
oldlady
it appears they want a broad spectrum of skill levels. i don't understand it either but it was at least a start. the making of nesting bowls is a tough one. what's next, a birdbath in 25 minutes? Babs
"Ghost" has a lot to answer for....... What sexual innuendos??
Pugaboo
I really enjoyed watching all the different styles of working and the final product. I agree though that the cracks seemed to be due to the fast drying time to fit it into the show schedule. It will be interesting to see how the show and the potters progress. OH and it was actually interesting to see the failures on the wheel I don't feel so bad now as I've done allll those things while at the wheel and glad to not be the only one. Chilly
Must agree about the throwing failures Pugaboo - made me feel better too!!!! I wondered if a teapot might feature sometime? Chris Campbell
I was very surprised by the throwing ... I expected everyone would at least be able to center clay!
Celia UK
Me too Chris, although I think the lady who left was more of a sculptor than a thrower, so perhaps she can be forgiven. However - knowing you were going on the programme, surely you'd get a bit of help beforehand and practise! After all, a couple of tips from an experienced thrower and you wonder how you ever found it so difficult - well, in my experience anyway! I was just surprised that a couple of them tried to start throwing up the walls when they clearly hadn't got the clay centred - maybe the pressure of time was getting to them, who knows? Still looking forward to tomorrow night.
