  1. Just got back from a three day trip in Death Valley! Professor canceled class last week so I had to be without clay for 4 days! Looking forward to getting back to the studio tonight...

It usually cools down in late November-March and the mountains get snow during storms. It is tricky in the desert, go in the summer and you get massive heat waves, go in the fall/winter the roads wash out from storms and it freezes at night. You just have to pick your weekends, the heat was not that bad because it is so dry there and most of the attractions you drive to and can do as little or as much walking around as you want. Spring is usually the best after it rains a little, there are wi...

Oh dear I could not handle 120. Spring sounds great.

  2. Thank you Giselle! Not sure I understand? Is this sarcasm? (:
  3. Thank you! It does not show too much in this shot the color difference http://sta.sh/0bws2alm3j1but here you can see it is much more red than the dark brown I was going for.
  4. From the album: Ceramics Fall 2016

Turquoise stone and white matte on a dark red clay body. I threw the foot separately and attached when leather hard. It is slightly off balance, but will look nice holding my mini hanging succulents in the garden.
  5. From the album: Ceramics Fall 2016

Tenmoku glazed on a dark red clay body. I was told it fired differently on the bottle because they were not all fired together, next time I will leave a note asking to have them be in the same part of the kiln to promote more consistency. First try making a set of something, the tiny cups proved quite a challenge! But it was fun.

Bisqued Sake set. This was glazed in tenmoku and I will grab photos of them later today. Since my work is fired in a classroom setting, all my cups were placed in different areas of the kiln, so each one looks slightly different.

Turquoise stone and white matte ^6 ox on calico dark red clay. A couple very wonky vases that developed decent sized cracks from uneven drying, this was one of the first things I made after taking a hiatus of 3 years from clay, be gentle! I needed to keep a few unsatisfactory pieces to try my experiments. I am totally head over heals in love with the color combo, but am very sad all the pieces developed pin holes on them... I talked to the professor and she is going to go over how to avoid that next time and keep my work together as to have a more consistent firing.

Turquoise stone and white matte ^6 ox on bone white clay. A very wonky bowl, this was one of the first three things I made after taking a hiatus of 3 years from clay, be gentle! I needed to keep a few unsatisfactory pieces to try my experiments. Ended up loving the combo, but am very sad all the pieces developed pin holes on them... Moonlight glaze with cobalt splatter ^6 ox on bone white clay. This was one of the first mugs I made this semester. I have gotten some great feed-back regarding smoothing the lip, foot, and handle. This was an experiment that did not produce the results I was looking for, I had splattered cobalt stain on top of the moonlight (that I later found out had cobalt in it) and the resulting texture is very subtle. I probably will not stick with this glaze, it looked better on the test tile... :rolls eyes:
  11. First glaze kiln of the year comes out today! Can't wait to see how my experiments came out...

Thank you! The matte glazes came out great, I am just bummed they are not technically food safe ):

    Glazed Ceramics 2013

    Finished Glazed Ceramics From 2013
  13. From the album: Glazed Ceramics 2013

This whole bowl was glazed in sun valley. The outside ran quite a bit onto the foot and cookie it was resting on, but the inside result was very interesting. It breaks in a light blue, and can have a whole range of color changes as it melts. In 2013 this was the largest bowl I had managed to throw, it was made out of 10 pounds of clay. Deciding on if I want to use this glaze again on future works, as it is very unpredictable and runny.
  14. Wow, I really love the illustrations of the flowers! The brushwork is fabulous, always been attracted to that kind of painting. Wonderful!
  15. Trimming my Sake set today. Nervous about the result!

High Bridge that's what I thought, I can't find an FAQ that mentions problems uploading or a time limit. We will see!

  19. Thank you! I do as well. All the glazes are reduction.
