  1. Very sad news, I will not be able to take ceramics next semester...it looks like my hobby will be put on hold for quite some time, as we currently do not have the finances to set up the rest of the necessary equipment in our current space.

$20 per item??? That does not make any sense. Lump it together until you have like 5 for $20 or something. The rates here just to use the facilities are insane.

I know, I think it's ridiculous. There is no way the whole firing even costs $20!

  2. Thank you Nerd! I do believe it is one of my best mugs so far. (:

    Ceramics Fall 2016

First semester back in clay after 3 year hiatus. Still very much new, and always learning!

The white is the overlap between the two. A kiln-assist student thought many of my slab works were cookies, and carelessly threw them into the cookie pile. Thus, most were cracked...

The shino came out a little crawl-y and slightly uneven. It was a test batch but I still like the result.

I love how hands on Raku and horsehair is. Not only do I connect with my ancestral potters, my inner pyro is quite satisfied.
  7. Did a horse-hair firing tonight. Got great results with the sulfuric acid!

Haha, I would not know! The professor gave it to us. From her horse. I forgot to use the lions mane we had left over too (yes real lion, we have a teaching zoo on campus).

Wow, I never heard of a lion petting zoo! I guess the crocodile petting zoo didn't work out! :)

  8. It is a lovely green. Trinkets and tiny things always get me, so cute!

Dragons are my favorite. Would love a large piece as gorgeous as yours!
  10. Student Ceramics Sale is tomorrow, putting a few of my best pots up for sale. Great way to see others work, professors are very encouraging.

Yes! I kept my favorites, the strawberry pot in my gallery was one, as well as a few mugs. My stuff got so much more even-walled and light towards the end of the semester, you can really see the difference in just 3 months. Excited to go again next semester!

Sale is going great so far. Sold over 3/4 of my pieces. I think they are running it today too, so I will pick the left overs up next week.

  11. Thank you Mark! I agree, I have a plant obsession !

This is my favorite glaze combo. Flambe blue can come out purple, red, and dark blue. I added sun-valley, a heavy rutile glaze that reacts with the blue and causes a waterfall of colors. Very difficult to photograph.

Unfortunately the students loading all of my slab work thought they were cookies and handled them with no care, all have cracked to some degree.... I did not brush enough glaze on the platter, and the form needs to be refined, but I learned a lot about the process.
  14. Decided to take up sewing and knitting to occupy me until the new ceramics semester in January...

Any glaze books on what each material is and used for? IE: copper is for oranges, yellows, blues and reacts like x,y,z in these conditions....

Knitting not coming along well, sewing is fun.

  15. That's it folks. Ceramics semester is over... it's going to be a long two months....

I had forgotten about this bowl, it was one of my first larger bowls thus a little heavy. I love the flecks that Flambe blue makes. Sometimes it is red, sometimes blue, sometimes purple depending on where in the kiln it is.

Another tumbler/vase with a simple white satin glaze.

My set of matching b-mix tenmoku and blue chun bowls. Really light, will be great for condiments or rice bowls (the big one will be for my rice, lol).

I blew RIO bubbles on this guy, but it was a little too light! I love the weight and feel of it.

One of my favorites out of this last kiln load, other than the crazy crazing on the inside! I will probably put a nice little pothos or similar in it...
  21. Found a medium-small high fire Paragon kiln never used for less than $300... Now I just need to convince my husband where to get $300 from!

I paid $175.00 for broken down, A82B Paragon. $300 is a steal. Bricks falling apart and I need new elements. I dannae if she can take any more, Captain! You can't mix matter and anti-matter cold! I need a scotch, Scotty. Aye Captain.

  22. Today I get to see my marbled planters! Really excited for the result...

Yeah I posted in the forum, something weird with the clear glaze and the black engobe I used.
