Some of you awesome folk have worried about Guinea, but I'm alive. Been a bit too sore for clay lately, but I've been drawing a lot. I have lots of new ideas for clay stuff, too, when my joints feel up to it. I wanna get funky!

hmmm guinea, its good to get off the hamster wheel once in awhile. drawing is good.
-
You have a great spirit..maybe I could shore myself up better with some drawing-thanks for the inspiration.
-
It's been frustrating as heck... even painting is exhausting to me nowadays. But, we just gotta keep trying, I suppose. :3
-
I've been looking at that porcelain canvas stuff, and getting ideas. Do you think a diamond bit could drill a hole in it for hanging?

-
use water and you might get some silicon carbide powder it make a paste to dip the tip of the bit. Keep it wet.
-
start with a small size bit and work up to the size you want. I'd recommend epoxying a metal hanger on the back rather than a hole.
-
Oh yeah! Man, I really prefer the aesthetic of a threaded wire over epoxy, though. Epoxy is just so messy and it stinks to handle. Maybe I could learn to put wire along the corners like jewelry makers do with big stones, or something.
-
I finished the building part of the toony-ish fox head and posted pics in my "w.i.p." thread, if you'd like a peek. ♥

It's the same one I posted two days ago.

Glad to see you are back and working

Welcome back.

Just uploaded a few new gallery pieces (finally)! More will come, but I didn't want to hog the screen up, heehee. :3

Hehe, that's my fella. He fancies himself a corgi-fox with a taste for tea. He wanted him looking grumpy and cold in the woods. Thanks, Benzine!
-
OK, you're killin me here...you know that, right? <3
-
Awww, nuuu! No dying for you!
-
Is it weird that I'm nervous to start slab building..? Hnnghhh...

Make up some magic slip for your joints.
-
No worries with slabs. Just let them dry evenly and slowly. Put them together, so they hold their weight enough, without being too dry. And smooth/ round the seams well.
-
When I roll out slabs I usually cut the shape I want then let them rest for a while to firm up. Less soggy to handle, especially with larger pieces. Also, a clay with a little grog in it helps. Less warping and firms up better.

Darnit, the heat finally broke (gonna be 80! Yippee!), and I'm stuck cleaning house. It'd be a perfect trimming day, too. I think I'll try and underglaze later on, though. Pics?

Haaaa...well...more like a puff here and there, but I'm tryin'!
-
LOL Sounds like me. "I'm going to do all the dishes! All of them! Then clean the WHOLE kitchen. Ooh, goody, telephone!"
-
Lucky you I heard on the weather we might have a break in the heat in Sept because of El Nino.
-
Has anyone ever had shoulder problems from throwing? Like bursitis or rotator cuff issues? My buddy tore the crap out of his making macho-pottery & needed surgery. Mine are KILLIN'. I wanna throw! ;.;

You are SO TALENTED so you need to take care of YOU!! If you want the longest career possible you have got to take care of the equipment! You are hurting too many parts of your body.
-
I don't understand why you don't just coil build or something. If throwing is so hard on you, maybe try an alternate method. There are some absolutely breath taking pots that are coil built. I am not telling you what to do, but your work is so awesome I would hate to see an injury stop you from doing what you can do best.
-
Or ... since you love the decorating so much ... slip cast it! Then do your wonderful paintings.
-
The cold snap finally passed, and the nights are in the high 20s (instead of below zero)! Fred's cookin'!

I stepped outside this morning to find a warm 34 degrees. We have one car that's good on ice and a truck for snow and flooding.
-

-
Omg it's 35F and it feels soooo WEIRD!! We haven't been this warm in ages! Now we have frozen rain, though...goodie. D: Give me two feet of snow over that Devil Snot any day!
-
Yay! Duck and owl posted in the gallery! Had to edit the pics a bit, heehee.

I put my WIP owl bowl in my duck mug topic, if you'd like to see.
-
My fella got me a rolling pin and a bag of natural sponges from the thrift store! Gonna get on slab adventuressss... ♥
-
A couple of yahoos were racing on the highway at 2:30am, crashed, and knocked out the power in three small towns. My Fred was firing when the power was cut, hnnngh... He got back online, though.

Working on a super cute wide-rimmed shallow bowl for my fella as a late Xmas pressie. Gonna be adorable!!
-
I wish more people would upload piccies to the gallery. :3 It's so nice to see what everyone has been working on and stuff.
-
some of my works in progress were posted today, i will be removing some of them and putting up new ones.
-
I saw that! You should keep them up for good memories. :3
-
I know, when I see a new person I always go to see what they've made. I was surprised at how many people don't have ANY pictures shared at all. LOL I had three albums by the time I'd been on here two days!

HNNGH HNNGH HNNGH! There's a wee test kiln on CL for $400 that is practically MINT. Oh, WHY do I have to be broke until Juuuune....we sure have expensive taste, us ceramicists.
-
I resisted doing this for two of the last three years. I did little projects, I made my stamps. No glaze for those. So cheap. I finally gave in, I'm setting up my studio and I'm so broke!!!
-
I'm so frugal about everything else, too. Jewelry? Nah. Haircut? Won't spend more than $25. Shoes? Only if they're buy one get one free. That all goes out the window when it comes to pottery equipment! LOL
-
I keep looking at free kilns on the internet and wanting to take them all. If only I could lift the weight of 4 men by myself.
-
-
OMFG I feel like a six year-old at Disneyland. I just pulled my duck mug and owl bowl from the bisque and AAAAH THEY'RE SOOOO PRETTAYYY!! Gonna glaze on Tuesday! *dying of happy*
-
Finally hooking my kiln up this weekend. Been a rough couple weeks, but hot-place or high water, I`m cranking out yarn bowls like a madrodent.
-
Spodumene is such a great word. I always hear it in a British accent. Glaze chemistry is rad! ♥
-
Wow, Skutt is sure Johnny-on-the-spot for their parts delivery! Ordered the switch box yesterday and got it delivered today! ...this looks scary...
-
I'm one tired guinea pig. Made seven yarn bowls and two medium-large food bowls, trimmed and pencil sketched. Gonna be kyoot! WIP pics to come. I sure miss my 30-piece a sitting days, though...
-
Kiln loaded with a whopping three pieces and a buncha kiln posts for filler. This is my first bisque in the garage...I'm mother-henning it hardcore!
-
It's 1:00am, and I just finished glazing. Time for this tired creaky rodent to paaaass out!!
-
I FINALLY uploaded the glazed and finished fox head to the gallery! Sorry it took so long; I habs no internets...boohoo...
-
Whewie, my paws are SOOORE today. So worth it, though; I made some adorable progress on Cap'n Cavy. His left leg is just about finished! Check out his SWEET lil' boot on my thread! Very proud. ♥
-
I know how you feel I finished glazing a seed pot today that has a butterfly design on it. I started having trouble with my eyes the other day. I am hoping that this bout of optic neuritis doesn't last long.
-
Oh, great. You take care of those eyes, lady; they are most precious. Yeah, I'm pretty bummed out about my hands... I guess I had better stick to smaller scale pieces. 7" is too tall for Guinea's busted paws... :'(
