I never hedge my bets by reading (using) other people's answers but it makes me feel good when it looks like I am on the same page, even when just guessing. So-- I am going with 3-2-1 and 2 & 3 Of course question #4 bothers me, because if 2 (anagama) is correct, then the sentence should begin with "An" , not "A".

Just sent out my first "web site is live" notice. Maybe should not have, since the store is not active yet, but everything else is done and I figured I best begin to get it "out there". Feels good! Lot of work, but i did it all myself.

Finally, I got 8 items up in my website Shop. That means I now know how to do the next 100--all the behind-the-scenes integrated detail work involved, since no, you don't "just" upload a picture and slap a price on it!

LeeU - I think if "mass migration" is a concern, then it is up to each of us to promote and maintain an active, vibrant and respectful community (as has, been our culture). People come and go for a variety of reasons, and yes there are losses to lament. However, it is the culture that holds thing together over time. There's an incredible amount of talent and knowledge on this forum today, and I'm thankful for the efforts of the existing and new moderators that help make this a community where that knowledge and ideas can be shared.

Wow, where have I been? I had no idea that John was no longer participating here.
That is unfortunate, especially if it was because of conflict/ disagreement with other posters.
I have seen too many posters leave, for such reasons.
I have never taken anything, people have said here, personal. If my views are questioned, I either further explain myself, or rethink my stance. I am not the authority, that some former and current members are, so I have less to lose in a debate, but I am still always open to a health discussion. If it turns negative, I just walk away... That's exactly what I preach to my students, so I have to lead by example right?

Lee: many changes have happened in the last few months. It is more than just John and Bruce leaving us: the whole forum format has changed. Lots of us are still struggling trying to get use to the new layout: myself included. I much preferred the old version, most miss the "at a glance" ease of use.
It will take Min and Neil awhile to get use to their new roles: so they are dealing with newness as well. This forum is no different than life, people move in and out of it all the time. We are approaching 30,000 members and perhaps 100 post on any regular basis. Give it some time to adjust from the changes and the disruptions: and it will level out. John and Bruce will certainly be missed.

The way I approach creating now is so radically different from how I approached it in the past. To a much appreciated extent, I am discovering the continuation of Self, which s a good thing, however slowly I get on with it.

I am thrilled to be turning down my first commission request! I am not going to do orders to specifications, but I will accommodate the person by offering a few "close to/very similar" objects based on the desired attributes.

Lee, can you tell me how you turned down the commission work? For instance, what words did you say? I just got a request from a customer today saying that she wants 3 more mugs like the one she bought from me in December only she wants red hearts and she wants things written on them and ...... I have to be able to nicely turn down some custom work.......

Happy New Year! I'm thrilled to now have someone to help with some of the non-clay tasks needed to set up an online store, which means I can focus more time/energy on making the pieces I need to make.

Yeah, a little late in the day, but I am putting together my timeline and priorities for 2018. Would love to get some tips, so I posted a query in Business, Marketing, and Accounting.

The day, through my own negligence, I dropped and watched all of a box of truly wonderful pieces smash to bits. Each piece unique, no repeated forms, glazes really sweet, forms useful and great looking, many made with a specific person in mind, some Palladium finish probably never to be seen again...oh I could go on and on. My style is generally organic, rough, handbuilt, often based on serendipity, and as such, most pieces are not easy to replicate, nor do I want to. So transporting/carrying the load the way I did was a grievous error of judgement which I shall not repeat! On the plus side, it did force me to take a look at not trying so hard to make each piece so different from the next. I am now making some forms-like a particular type of tea light holder-pretty similar in size, shape, glaze, and texture/stamp, and I am getting feedback that people like "them"-meaning the core design. And if I drop and break one, I really can "just" make another.

Added two detail pics of the facial aspect of "Emerging" Hidden Mask. This piece was fired in the anagama kiln that was built by John Baymore's New Hampshire Institute of Art BFA students in 2014. The kiln, and the firing process, is a wonder to behold, and "wonder" is part of it's Japanese name, Fushigigama.

I put a pic of my most recent "hidden mask" in the gallery. It was fired in an anagama kiln, and I am thrilled with how it came out. Coincidently--serendipity--it was titled "Emerging" before I submitted it to the fire.

Nice! Must be a good experience to do a wood fire. Hope I get too some day.

This piece was fired in the anagama kiln at the Sharon Art Center in NH. It is porcelain with a celedon glaze on the facial planes and a temmoku on the stamped area. The orange on the right side is on unglazed clay and is an attribute of the firing. -
My update is more about self-reflective accountability that any news worth sharing. I am (really, really I am) working on my web site, using Old Lady's suggestion to put pics in my inventory spreadsheet (didn't know how--now I know how) and making some gifts for Christmas-porcelain trays, mostly.

Upset with self--spent funds on low fire clay and glaze and just plain do not like either.
I guess I need to give it a fair chance. I got them for making pendants.

Lee is super happy with her decorated tile, courtesy of the New Hampshire Potters' Guild raku demonstration at Andy Hampton's pottery. The left side is the result of slip that peels off. There is also Copper Flash and Moonshine (the blue).

Look what I found! They were in a box in my storage shed-been there for 15 years-I thought they were long gone. Gas-fired masks made from a plaster mold that I made of face-pressed clay (the form of a friend' face). The top right one was made by my daughter, age 6 at the time.
I guess I need to give it a fair chance. I got them for making pendants.
