  1. I take one day off every week and run errands and take care of stuff that life throws at you. When I really hit a wall I usually take a break by working with a technique or style I haven't used for a while. I have been coiling for the last several years but it is getting tedious, I bought a electric wheel a couple of weeks ago. I am taking a break trying to learn how to throw on a electric wheel. I sure miss my kickwheel. Denice
  2. Try, try, try again. Remaking a fountain topper, the last one dried too fast and cracked, so I am remaking it. Unloaded a bisque firing today, I fired my new kiln and it was a perfect firing. Denice
  3. Mark I was wondering if you had ever used the Wonderbat system.   I tried it out today, and it didn't want to stay seated in the opening, kept moving up and down.  This is my first time throwing in about 2 years and I have never thrown much on a electric wheel.  The next pot I got out a regular  bat and didn't have any problems centering it.   Does the square need some clay underneath it?  The wheel I got off of E-Bay came with two sets,  it would be a shame not to use them.   By the way I sold my kickwheel so we were able to set up the Brent this weekend.   I also bought a 3 cu. ft. Blue Diamond kiln,  I paid $250 for it.   It has a manufacture date of 1969 on it but has never been used,  it also came with $100 worth of shelves and stilts.   My small Paragon finally bit the dust,  it is around the same age but it is well used.   I like having a kiln that size for special jobs.   Denice

denise, i used them for years.  if you dampen the bats themselves, they expand just enough to fit tightly.  you learn to center a little differently if they lift up a bit.  very useful as the pot pops off when it dries enough.

I agree with oldlady.  I too use the Wonderbat system, and they will expand, when wet.  This is good to keep them snug, bad if you are trying to put a damp one, back in the system, because sometimes they don't fit back in, until the insert and base dry.

I have my old kiln in the trash and my new kiln installed.  We discovered that it had been fired once and the cone had some how melted back into the cone cylinder of the kiln sitter making it unusable.  We replaced it but had to move the kilns around the new one had a short cord.  While we had the kilns out we put up another piece of cement board on the wall in the kiln room.  Once we started to move things around we discovered that our corrugated  aluminum for the Skutt envirovent need to be replaced.   Our quick and easy job turned into a marathon.  I  have a bisque firing going this morning and I am going to try wetting the wonderbats and see if that helps.    Denice

  4. When I was in college they made a new one for every firing and then the fire gods sat around on top of the gas kilns. So some reason I connect them to gas or wood firing, I fire electric and have never made the connection. Denice
  5. I have a replacement top in progress for my bubbler fountain on my back patio, some how the original one was broken last year. I glued it back together but it really needs to be replaced. I am ready to load a bisque and have the room for it. Denice
  6. Prez I understand you completely on the production process pushing away the inner peace. The longest I haven't worked with clay is 2 years, I was designing and building a house and studio and selling our old house. I was to busy to miss it and I knew I was going to end up with a full functioning potter studio not just stuck where there was some extra room. It was worth the wait! Denice
  7. Prez I have the exact same feelings and thoughts as you when it involves clay. I have been stock piling coiled work with Indian designs on them for the last two years. I was thinking my husband could open a internet business and keep busy selling them when he is retired. But I have grown weary of them, I need to take a break. Mark C. found me a great deal on a electric wheel, so I am heading a different direction for awhile. I have dabbled in many different art forms through out my life, clay is the only one that gives me inner peace. Denice
  8. Love it, Love it, Love it. Reminds of a geo cut in half a wonderful intricate pattern revealed. Denice
  9. I just put a nice size coiled pot in my drying cabinet which is now full. My work table needs to be cleaned covered with clay dust and crumblies, my other work table is covered with glazed pots I unloaded from a firing recently. Mark C found a Brent C wheel on E Bay for me to buy so now I need to sell it my kick wheel locally. I hope I can find someone who will love it as much as I do, I can't kick it up anymore to the speed it needs to be. Denice
  10. Like you I have a TV that I watch movies for shows that I have seen before. I listen and don't have to watch, I also have a boom box that I play when I am tired of the television. On the weekends when my husband is in his workshop, we tune it to the same oldies station and rock on. If I don't have a environmental companion I hear all of the pops and bangs the house is making and my house makes some loud noises that worry me. Denice
  11. I am also a visual learner, I was partially deaf when I was very young and learned how to speak by watching people talk. My hearing was fixed when I was 4 years old but by then my brain had been wired to be a visual learner. When I was in college I had to write down everything the professor said because I had to actually see the words. When I read a book I take notes on parts that I want to remember. You might try this approach and see it it works for you. I was a okay student in high school but once I figured out how I learned I made straight A's in college. Denice
  12. A nice size coiled bowl with black stylized Anazai designs on white clay. Didn't quite get in finished today. Sorry no photo. Denice

  14. Had my first MS relapse in 10 years Saturday the whole right side of my body went numb.  My hands still work  so I can still stumble out to my studio and still work.  I guess it doesn't take too much to make me happy.   Denice

I smell most of the time unless I need to go somewhere. It's okay to be a little stinky. Showers are hard for me as well due to my skin. Just be smelly! It will be okay!

Very sorry to hear you are going through this set back. A temporary, short term, short lived and momentary problem; that I believe will be resolved quickly.

  15. Working on a replacement top for the bubbler fountain I made a few years ago.   My husband dropped it working on the pump system that had quit working.    Denice

  18. I have a paragon that I bought used in the early 70's, a few years ago I had trouble with my kiln sitter. I pulled it off the kiln and took it to my repair guy, he said I had one of the original kiln sitters and was wondering how old the kiln was. It is still being used for bisque firings. Denice
  19. Love the tadpole plate and what is that glaze that you loved?
