We got a ice storm overnight,  it thundered and lightning and rain a quarter inch of ice.   My son is visiting from Palau and is freezing.  Denice

We should have snow on the ground, and a week ago, we did.  Most of it melted over the weekend, and woke up to thunderstorms this morning.

Last year at this time, it was in the 60s and 70s!

We had another ice storm last night,  we only had two cold nights last year.  It is suppose to be in the high 50's next week.   I only worked in my studio yesterday for a couple of hours, it was to cold and my heater wasn't cutting it.   Denice

  3. Sold one of my older electrics today-gave her the whole  deal-tons of extras -10, 1/2 shelves 2 fulls

older working skutt 218 ,3 section

she needed a bisque kiln -perfect use for this older model

It's nice when something is going unused and it gets a new life isn't it? Sounds like you gave her a sweet deal.

This forum is probably the largest repository of information on every aspect of all things ceramics. I suspect people are doing searches in lieu of asking questions. Of the 28,000 plus members, less than 100 post on a regular basis.

Yes.  I got 2 responses on my productivity question from people who have never posted here.    They actually went to my website.  One of them has 28 employees.    I have another forum member that's on my Face Book and chats occasionally, who used to post here.  I guess some people don't post on forums.

    4. glazenerd

      glazenerd

Same here. I get more questions in my PM or direct email, than I do in the forum. Not exactly sure why, but I suspect most members do. Would imagine Mark gets alot of them given his production history.

  5. Sun and rain sun and rain-up to 34 inches for the year for rain less for the sun

Mark is that the average rain fall you get every year.   We have had a little over a inch of moisture since last November.  I just noticed that you had your 65th birthday in March, congratulations.  I had my 65th October 15 last year.  I  am going to draw off of my husbands Social Security,  I will get more money that way.   I have to wait until I am 66 and he has to enroll also.   My husband is still working and is retiring next October.    Denice

  6. suns out =high production days

  7. Thank you to all who reached out about how we are doing from the big earthquake. I only lost 5 cereal bowls at my xmas booth and zero breakage at studio. Our home is fine as we are prepared for quakes and have out styff bolted to wall and our water heater and solar tanks are straped to walls. Yes we had stuff fall but it all made it fine. This was my best earthquake as pottery damage was so light. Our house is bolted to foundation as well so its fine to.

Glad to hear that things went well. Shudder to think of the damage some places had to deal with. Best of the season was with you!

Its the warmest night we have had in weeks its 60 degrees out at 8 pm-starting to rain.

I realize most of the country is in a deep freeze just not us on the west coast .

      We need rain badly.

I haven't been in the studio in 2-3 weeks. I just don't like working when its 40 degrees out there. I am a wussy. I have other things I have been doing so it isn't like I am wasting time though.

Mark we are in a drought also, they are predicting a drizzle Sunday but I will believe it when I see it.  My son is coming home for a visit in the middle of February,  his grandmother hasn't been well.   He is afraid she might not be around when they move back home from Palau.  She is having her 95th birthday  in February.   Are you still having a great vacation?   Denice

      Hang in there Mark.

    2. What?

      What?

I didn't read anything in the Feb 2018 issue of Ceramics Monthly about the brutality Mark C has to face shipping out one mug at a time. Nice write up.  I think a while back you mentioned you were contributing to an editorial. Always nice to see and read articles from people I have meet here and in person.

  11. This production before surgery is kicking my butt-unloaded two galze fires today-reloaded the big kiln and got it going for 3rd glaze fire.I'm starting to feel tired.

Thank you for the reply as I have concern for noticeable arthritis in my hands. I've only been a part-time potter for 8 years, but also a hairstylist and have a family history of arthritis. Both of my thumb joints ache as well as my wrist; fortunately not all at the same time! I don't feel I'm at the point for surgery but it's good to know you'll be able to find relief. I've had carpal tunnel and trigger finger surgery and those were a walk in the park as far as rehab. My other surgeries were longer recoveries and self-induced; a titanium plate and pins from playing roller derby and knee surgery from Ultimate Frisbee. I was back to work in 3 months and on the frisbee field in 5. I live in PA and found a good hand surgeon at Hershey Medical Center, tho I'd travel further for someone like your doctor. You seem like a committed potter, so how do you  plan to spend your rehab, for the sake of sanity?!

    3. Mark C.

      Mark C.

I spend every day rehabbing as I cannot make pots or go diving or fishing so its all in on rehab. I did done mention my arthritis as at my age and potting we all have it. E=when They cut you open they scrap it out and its gone for some years in that area. same will be true this time. Carpel tunnel and trigger finger are very fast recovery surgeries. The woman at Yale to see if you think you need hand work is Lisa Lattanza-head of hand surgery dept. I would see her as she is close to you-See will elevauate and only do surgery if you need it .She will not do it if unnecessary-she is commited to finding the issue and getting to whats needed and whats not. Do not expect bedside manner talk just the real deal with your issue. 8 years of pottery should not be to much the holding scissors up can do things.

      rox54

My hand doc didnt have bedside manner either but that doesn't concern me. Best wishes to you!
