  1. From the album: Art Show Displays

This year I made a dozen or so little flat bottomed, flat sided cylindrical dog and cat dishes. They are not proving hot sellers although I know for certain they will sell online so I'm not concerned. One problem I have with my displays (This is now the third time ever that I have set up an in-person show) is that I don't get enough height in the back. So when I have a shelf with lots of mugs they are all sitting there in a boring row around the same height. Well last night I went around and used the dog bowls turned upside down as pedestals! I'm totally delighted because they add to the color of the shelf and height too. Next year I'm going to specifically make as many of them as I can in a huge batch ahead of time just to use as pedestals! I'm going to make some of a third height as well. I hated the idea of buying acrylic display props. This is much much better to me!

The first day of the show this display was solid wildflowers. I started stealing from other displays to fill in holes made by sold items. Next year my goal is to have back stock. More than just one of each item so I can replace them as they sell!

This is actually a big table with the display in the middle and space around with dishes arranged to fill it. I couldn't step far enough back to fit the whole display in!

I keep this shelf like this pretty much year round. When a customer wants to visit I quickly dust and rearrange anything to fill holes made by sold items. It works out really nicely for me. Cuts down on setup for my studio show too!

It's so funny! The poppies get a lot of attention but they are not selling either! Tomorrow I'm going to put them a bit lower down so people can see the pretty bright colors on the inside. Some are red and some are teal. These are favorites of mine and get a lot of compliments but definitely not a huge seller.

The first day of the show I put all the blue together on one shelf and it looked blah. Today I mixed up the two colors and sold quite a few blue items. They stood out so much better.

This shelf is drawing lots of attention but nobody is buying these colors. The wildflowers are stealing the show! Not that I'm complaining!

My friend has a whole table at her show that she sets for dinner with all her dishes and accessories so I shamelessly copied her idea. I want to sit down and have sangria and chicken caesar salad!

I love the contrast between the glossy and satin glazes. The kitty mug doesn't photograph very well but Mimi went to a cat lover. I definitely need to make more!
  10. But you know what, Sydney? I like that the bottle is different from the cups. It works. I think if it was one or two cups a different color it would seem more like a flaw. Since the cups are all the same color and only the bottle (which is already different) is the color that's more red, I find the effect very pleasing!
  11. I've learned to put sets together even if they are all different heights, for this very reason!!
  12. First day of Open Studio went very well. I'll take some pictures tomorrow (Sun) and post in the gallery.

I love those tackle boxes for organizing stamps and other tiny tools.
  17. We use pyrometric bars. Have you readjusted and reached max flux capacitance yet? Lol Nope I'm not touching my dad's kiln. I would probably be lured to the dark side. I will learn soon enough when I finally get mine hooked up.
  18. I have two weeks till Open Studio and I think I'm getting sick! :(:( I have 26 mugs and several other pieces wrapped in plastic, waiting to be handled and carved, as well as 40+ other pieces that are dry and ready to be fired.

  19. Try adjusting the sitter: http://www.hotkilns.com/how-do-i-adjust-my-kiln-sitter It's not my kiln, it's my dads. I have never personally done any kiln maintenance on it, but I do know that he adjusted it already. It was firing to Cone 7 or 8 when it was set to Cone 5. Now it fires to Cone 6 when set to Cone 5. LOL I generally use that big kiln for bisque and then do my glaze firing in smaller batches in the other one, which is a Duncan Teacher-Plus.
  20. My dad has a Jenkins kiln that someone bought, never fired once, and then sold 35 years later. He replaced the coils and that thing runs like a beast. It's in beautiful condition. He's planning to spring the money to convert it to automatic since currently we have to turn it up every hour for the first three hours and it also tends to fire a tad hot. Still, for a 35 year old kiln that's impressive. Incidentally my dad is almost 70 and he can outwork me any day of the week. Seems he found the proper kiln.
