  4. You can't tell me that mixing crystalline glazes does not take artistic talent! Maybe a different style. My husband makes absolutely beautiful spreadsheets for his job. I think that's a different talent than say painting a mural but still a wonderful skill. And something not everybody is good at!

I decided to decorate this cup in this design to cover a divot from where I dropped it onto another cup! Now you'd never know.

I've seen brush embroidery applied to frosting cookies and cakes, and I've wanted to try it with slip for awhile now. Next time I'm going to use stiffer slip, this was a tad too liquid. But I still like it!

This one was too tiny to trim with my Giffin so I put it inside another cup. Didn't realize how crooked it was till I took it off, so I decided to go with it and made a topsy turvy cup. The slip trailing reminds me of Ankylosaurus armor.

Learning to throw off the hump is not so scary when it's low-stakes, mostly-for-fun shot glasses that I plan to use as glaze test cups. No handles so the time investment is minimal and if they come out well I'll sell them at my studio tour.
  9. Back to my white clay this week, which means a switch to slip trailing instead of carving! Oh so many many dots ...

I've gotten pretty good about cleaning as I go but before I switch I check everything. Still sometimes I get a smear or two. Oh well. :) I've been practicing throwing off the hump with little shot glasses, then slip decorating them. I'm about to upload them if you want to see. They're still just green.

Looking good. I just videod myself throwing off the hump today. It's been a while since I have done it. It really helps to review. Your pots look great.

I was throwing off the hump AND throwing on my friend's raised wheel. I want to try it at home and see if it goes better.

  10. Wonderfully detailed slip trailing!
  11. Very very nice slip work!

Glazing is one of my favorite parts other than firing.

  13. Three months' worth of work cooling in the bisque kiln right now. I've gotta fire more often and in smaller loads! !

I've been on more of a carving kick lately.

Exciting. Are we going to see more slip work in the gallery soon? I just ordered my super duper extruder based on your recommendation today. And some Flex Grips for my GG. Going to be getting my butt back in gear since my son is back in school now. Can't wait to see your new stuff.

I am going to be glazing a bazillion pieces of bisque and then starting a cycle of white clay, which I slip trail. :) Soon! I may even post some YouTube videos. I'm trying to find a really good tripod that I can angle the right way over where I'm working.

  14. Thank you! This was the first time I did handles like this and now this is what I do on my pie plates. The ruffled type of edge takes up a lot of clay really and it wasn't "me". This is kind of Art Deco, I love it.
  15. LOL Thank you, Mark! This item actually sold from being in the background of an Instagram photo the day after I threw it. Someone spotted it in its' totally unfinished form and said, I must have that! Kind of crazy.
