Who ever gave me the tip on the wax resist. I appreciate it. Forbes is the bomb. My feet came out fabulous. = )

I think attaching handles is my favorite part of a mug right now. So much comes from the way the handle looks attached to different forms. It really makes or breaks the form.

If you think putting on mug handles is fun, wait til you pull spouts on pitchers, take a straight edge, center the spout, and back of pitcher, make allighnment marks, pull and attach the handle. Then find out that its been attached to one side!!! I didn't attach a crooked handle..must have been the dogs. "No good deed goes unpunished"! Take in a stray animal and it messes with the handles.

My puppy snatched up my finishing sponge yesterday. I was looking everywhere for it, then I came in and found it everywhere. I didn't think about her messing with my handles as well! No wonder!

A handle can make or break a pot.

I guess I will have to get a subscription to this stuff once I go production. It is just too valuable.
-
Welp. You can't beat 14 bucks for 180 days of awesome insight.

Anyone know a good wax resist. I have been using amaco and it gunks up so much it drives me nuts. The only way it applies good is with a sponge. Is there a really good brand anyone knows about?

So, did anyone answer your question? I too, need a good wax resist.
-
Forbes wax resist; I get mine from Highwater Clay.
-
Yea, I got a few answers. I am gonna start with Forbes, as the first one I try.

Found a new glaze I like, that matches my base glaze. A deep red with speckles of black where it breaks. Also switching to frost porcelain so lots of new changes. Testing TIME!

I mixed it. It is darker in room light, but in the sunlight that is how it looks.

I will PM you recipe.

Hah, I put the raven away. I never could figure out the bloating. Pretty sad really. I might pick it up again in the future, but for now. No ravens on my shoulder.
-
I <3 ceramics too!

Making more test tiles, I think I have started to love testing as much as throwing. Added a vase to my gallery.
-
about 50 test tiles in kiln with slow cool. gonna be an interesting night tomorrow opening it.
-
Just ordered a bunch of glaze materials. Tons of testing in my future! I love TESTING! Trying to find glaze combination I want for all my wares.

Geez! What a finnicky little brat of a clay body. Maybe you got a poopy batch..? :S
-
I am not sure. I will keep testing it little by little. = )
-
bisque it to 04 then take it to cone 4 then use low fire glazes on it ? that will burn the gasses off and still give you glaze options... it might work? I dunno , im still working with it myself, its some wicked clay...
-
I will conquer this black clay bloating problem if its the last thing I do on this earth!

Seattle Pottery claims their vashon series goes to ^6, as well as their crystal white porcelain. All of those bodies bloat like a gassed-up politician. Sooooo...either the clay's being over-fired, or your kiln might be a bit too hot.
-
Maybe, but others have stated they have fired to cone 6. I use self supporting witness cones. I am not over firing, if anything under firing. I go to about 5.5.
-
Good luck I have no idea about bloating.

Found inspiration in my dreams last night. Dreaming of pottery. Man o Man.

Haha, I'm glad I'm not the only one.
-
Haven't had a good pottery dream for a while.
-
My only pottery dreams have consisted of me burning things down with kilns more worry than inspiration.

My year of throwing mugs and making handles is going well so far. I think I like making mugs more than bowls. = )

Bought a heater for my garage. Made a bunch of pots today. So nice throwing in 70 degree heat.
