  1. Yes! They do. I need to do more work with his chickens on them. I was using chicken decals for a bit, then I realized his chickens are the best.

    I single fired 365 as well and had no issues, I know you single fire also, so I forgot to mention that.

    Let us know what you think when you end up with it. I honestly preferred it over little loafers, which is the clay I learned to throw with.


  2. Neil also uses 365 if I remember right? @neilestrick ? I am pretty sure he was the one who recommended it and I tried it based off his recommendation. It is probably the best porcelain I have ever used to be honest. I tried many different glazes on it and translucent glazes needing that faint white hue underneath never disappointed. I made several slabs out of it when I was doing Currie grid tiles and it didn't warp bad at all, considering I took zero precautions against warping. The blue faux celadon glazes I was doing a while back were also on 365 is that helps any.  Here is a pot my son and I did together for reference of the look of a transparent glaze? :rolleyes:

    This clay will do exactly what you want but is very expensive and problematic to throw well. *shrugs*

    Maybe other's don't have a problem throwing it, but I for the life of me cannot get a pot higher than 12 inches with it, and I can throw all of the "difficult" porcelains just fine.

    I have never had black ice bloat, and I have fired it all the way to cone 7, and I also have single fired it with no bisque. The clay is remarkable, and I don't know how they get the dark body, but it doesn't change the color of the glazes on top at all.

    Here is a cup with the clay as a slip, which is how I use the clay as I prefer to use it as a slip on my work because of the texture I get using it. (plus its cheaper to use as a slip since I don't have to use nearly as much clay to get the look I am after.

    The black area is the unglazed area with black ice. This is cone 6.

  4. The entire reason I got into clay was for my mind. I was going insane at home. I couldn't do much because of my health conditions and my son had started pre-k, so I didn't have a reason to be home anymore during the days. This led me to some intense depression because I couldn't work,  I wasn't raising a kid fulltime anymore, and I couldn't take care of the outside stuff because of my conditions. I had always found pottery interesting to watch so that is why I picked it. Pouring myself into my work back then really got me through some pretty dark times and has now given me a life passion that I believe everyone should try to find.

    This is what I use. I used it when I worked in cement when I was a young man. I used to get cement on my hands which had calcium in it in the winter to help it set up. Nothing cracks hands faster than cement and calcium.

    You can find it at almost any drug store or Walmart in my area. Apply it rub your hands together, and apply more again until your hands feel better. Sometimes we would use a bottle a week because our hands would get so bad.  It works a treat. I still use it every day for my hands after pottery.

    My wife also uses it on her feet in the winter when she gets dry skin and her feet crack because she has life-long calluses from when she danced all her young life.

    It is cheap too, so at least give it a shot.

    I also agree with Mark. I superglue all my cuts together anytime I get any cuts from work or working outside. I do a quick Hibiclens rinse then glue skin back together, never had a problem yet.


  6. Been making yunomi around the clock. I have been testing a lot of clay mixes and additions and I have some big plans for my standard white glaze work. Also been making some new marks on my work that I haven't usually made and I plan to leave the areas rawish of clay. Hopefully, once I can get what is in my head down on the pot it will be as beautiful as I imagine it. I could literally make yunomi and nothing else for the rest of my life. They are the absolute perfection of a pot.


  7. Ah! I forgot to post them. The white glaze was nothing interesting to look. However, I refired an old grid I had made just to see how the second firing and the slower cool would do. It came out very interesting. I will have to set up my photo booth to capture the tiles properly. I will do it next time I take pictures.


  8. Hey, fellow Currie peoples. I have 2 tiles going in tonight! Going to necro this beast of a thread! Probably won't be that much to look at, but it is my standard white glaze that I use on all my work. Adapting it to be slightly more matte and just to see if there is anything interesting with it.

    On a side note, this is the first time I am actually using my currie grid tiles from the foam slab roller (which I sold). So it was sort of depressing using these beautiful tiles that I made so easily, that I can't make anymore because I sold the slab roller because I never ended up using it. Hahaha. 

    Has anyone been doing any more testing?


  9. Does anyone use Diamond Grinding Disk for their wheel heads?

    There are so many options and different products and they vary in prices by a lot. I just want a decent one so I was hoping to get a good recommendation from people here. 

    I searched but couldn't find anything in particular on the forums about this exact type of product. I plan on using it to level off slight rocks in my feet. They drive me crazy, but every now and then I will get a few pots that are really beautiful pots that have a slight rock to them and I want to fix it so I can sell them, instead of putting them into my personal collection or hammering them.

    Anyone use one of these things and can recommend a good one?

    The people who make advancers have one for 180 + 20 shipping. Looks pretty good and I like the rubber pad for the bat pin situation as I usually leave my pins on.

  10. From my testing with SiC. I found that the best results required glazes with good melts. Shino is a stiffer glaze usually, at least all the shino's that I liked. Usually, the SiC just made it bubble and didn't produce any visible reduction that I could see. I was using a 1200 mesh SiC. 

    However this doesn't mean it isn't possible, it just might take a lot of testing to get some results, so be prepared to go down a rabbit hole.

    If I was going to approach this again, I would use a currie grid for the shino recipe you wanted to try, then I would add a tiny amount of SiC to each cup and do another grid, and repeat this process 2-3 times. Then I would fire those tiles and look for any signs of reduction and try to figure out which combination of flux, clay, silica starts to get the best results. Then proceed from there.
