ChenowethArts got a reaction from Pyewackette for a gallery image, Decals Fired - Cityscape Bottles
The tree images on these Cityscape bottles are what the HP Laserjet decals look like once they are fired to cone 6 (oxidation). The slide-off decal paper came from: Decal Paper, 12610 NW 1115th Ave. - Bldg 200, Medley Florida 33178. The printer that I used is an old HP LaserJet4000TN...ink from this printer includes enough iron that it fires very well onto previously glazed surfaces.

ChenowethArts got a reaction from Min for a gallery image, Bisque Stamps & Greenware Stamped-Mug
I have my share of commercially produced stamps (particularly logos and finely detailed items), but I still enjoy sitting in an easy chair with my feet-up and carving clay stamps to be used on various projects. It is an exercise of patience for me and a learning experience to be aware of when the clay tells me that its OK to carve/cut/trim. I've wondered before if an exhibit of clay artist's bisque stamps might be a fun thing to organize.

ChenowethArts got a reaction from rakukuku for a gallery image, House Wine 2
This is the second "House Wine" vessel that I made. This time, underglaze transfers were added in an effort to build more depth to the surface. These are fun to make but seem to require a good bit of time on the workbench.
This one is headed for a November show.

ChenowethArts got a reaction from oldlady for a gallery image, Studio (Garagio) Floor
What happened when I ended up with two different colors of gray epoxy paint for the floor..."graphic camouflage"

ChenowethArts got a reaction from oldlady for a gallery image, Leif the Guardian of MugPhlutes & Horns
"Leif" (once fired) will rest upon the top of the kiln to protect all manner of ceramic musical instruments from warping and cracking. In the potter's tradition of "kiln gods" it is only appropriate that the pensive Leif look over his horn of triumph and guard the vessel where fire will temper the clay into worldly strength and perfection.
The saggar clay figure is roughly 8" tall in the greenware stage. This was a 'feet-up-2-NCIS-episode-long" sketch problem that merged from pen and ink to hollow clay form...just because I'd never created a 'kiln god' before.

ChenowethArts got a reaction from oldlady for a gallery image, House Wine 2 - Lid Close-up
This is a close-up of the lid/stopper for the "House Wine" vessel. I like sneaking in some detail work on areas that don't show when the top is in place.

ChenowethArts got a reaction from Marko for a gallery image, House on the House - Image transfer detail
Handbuilt stoneware mugs, approximately 12oz capacity, fired cone10. Surface treatment includes 3-d dwelling, carved-out hillside community, and underglaze image transfers. The transfers are new to me...using a CriCut Explore to create silkscreen masks through which thickened underglaze is printed onto rice paper. Once dried, the surface of the mug is coated in underglaze, the transfer is sprayed until saturated, and then pressed/burnished (with pint side to the mug) onto the bisque fired surface. I'm not yet comfortable enough with this technique to try it on greenware but it should work equally well.
Certainly there is a story to these mugs...the short version centers around work in some of the poorest slums in Central/South America in contrast with visits to numerous iconic cites in Europe.

ChenowethArts got a reaction from glazenerd for a gallery image, Keyboard Mug - Note Handle
This is a 14oz-16oz wheel-thrown, stoneware mug with slab-built (black only) keys attached to a carved/altered keyboard design. The handle idea is NOT original but borrowed/copied/altered from another artist's project. When I find the name, I will certainly give proper attribution. Interior is glazed with Woo's Blue. Exterior details are black and white, brushed-on, Amaco Velvet underglazes with a top coating of clear.
This is a concept mug for a commissioned gift project that is currently underway. The basic form and structure may remain the same but the color scheme for the actual project will be altered considerably.

ChenowethArts got a reaction from firenflux for a gallery image, Commissioned Piano Mugs
A small set of hand-built mugs (slab construction) with wheel-thrown rims for family friends...both of whom are musically gifted. The orange has a look of atmospheric firing, but it is actually Amaco Velvet orange underglaze. The sheen over the underglaze is from a light coating of clear. The interior and rim were dipped in Woo's Blue. The details on the piano keys are brushed on. All of the rest of the glazing was sprayed. These are 12oz (.35ml) and stand approximately 5in. (12.7cm) tall. These were fired to Cone 10 in reduction.
