Just participated in a wood firing, I had some excellent results. Will post photos after pots are cleaned up!
-
One more sacrifice to the kiln gods for this overnight firing including the rest of a large order and my hydria.
-
I have had bad luck with my pots lately. Hydra exploded and the family tree vases I made for parents christmas gift look like a 10 yr olds school project.
-
finishing up a wholesale order and studying real estate laws.... I can't wait to make my own work again!!
-
On a positive note, as soon as I unpack completely I can actually work on sculpting and do my first raku this summer!

I'm still firing my Raku kiln off a weed burner. It works great! Rebekah, are the Raku and sculpture going to be separate projects, or are you doing sculptural Raku?
-
seperate projects. Sculpture is my main desire but I have been meaning to try my first raku. I want to make pet urns in raku as one of my hopefully consumable products.
-
Thanks for that- I have this HUGE piece of styrofoam I found on the street and i plan to cut it into a base/ armture for a sculpture
-
Just started the kiln for the third time this week. Second glaze batch. Man am I beat!
-
Do you have a show coming up Rebekah?
-
I find I always underestimate how long it will take to load the kiln. A couple weekends ago we did my dad's huge kiln and small kiln one right after the other. Working together it took five hours JUST to load. And my back was killing me! Hopefully the results make it all worthwhile for you.

Uploaded some of my pots from the firing this week in the gallery.

Thanks for the compliment ben. I just have a small obsession with turkey vultures. It's really for my own enjoyment. THey always seem to fly overhead during big positive turns in my life or when I need confirmation for something I am doing. I read about them in animal speak and really identify with the symbolism.
-
Interesting, especially considering that usually when you see turkey vultures, something positive definitely didn't happen.
-
For them it did haha

Leaving for a show on friday. I am working my butt off trying to finish up last things. Glazed for 2 days strait - then bisq and another glaze firing in the plans. Needless to say I can't leave this week because the kiln will be on most of the time.
-
waiting for my kiln to cool..... glaze firing with my first tiles!!

Bisque firing a load hoping to get some last minute work in before friday's show!

tweaking my beer steins to make them better

Constant quality control . . . you know, testing each stein full of beer until the beer tastes just right.
-
I do need to do that- test each one out! I do not know how to post the current ones and the new unfired ones? (in gallery) anyone know how?

Here goes nothing! Just started my glaze fire a few days before my first show. My future is in the hands of the kiln gods...
-
Re bisque firing my big bowl in the old small kiln. This one takes more care to fire.
-
Dipped my toe in the ocean of glaze making …. the knowledge is so vast and intimidating.
-
Just turned on a bisque load- this one contains little handprints on slabs for my sons preschool class, they are my first slabs and have already warped a lot, but I need to get them done before school lets out this year.

A little candling never hurt....
-
Those closed forms seem to take forever to dry. Agree with Benzine about candling them.

I had a fantastic day of lessons at the Neil Estrick Gallery. I think he saved my horrible lid issue

right as always Ben

As far as my students are concerned, yes I am always right. In reality.....

Rebekah, I guess you already knows: The greatest pleasure lies in the anticipation!

Bisque firing a load today!
-
I made several vases on the wheel today. My back is killing me, but mentally I feel great.
-
make sure you are sitting in the best position ergonomically.
-
I am trying to keep a strait line from my neck to my back. But I have to lean forward with it too.. it's difficult. I think If I wore a back brace maybe it would keep my posture more aligned when throwing.
-
Couldn't you just elevate the wheel a bit? Not fun having back ache!! Please take care.

I did my first "pottery sale" at a spirit fair. I normally do numerology readings but this time I took some mugs with me. Feeling pretty good about my sales!
