I had a great time last weekend glazing a full 8 piece dinnerware set.  Opened the kiln a few days later to crawling on 75% of it.  I had a feeling something awful would happen when I saw a few cracks in the glaze; smoothed the cracks in and fired anyway.
So this weekend I'm throwing another 8 piece dinnerware set and defloccing the glaze this time.

Also hit the pottery supply place and picked up another half ton of porcelain... Yes... Another stoneware potter caught the porcelain bug...
Could be worse I suppose, but I finally found a porcelain that I love.
CKK6 from Seattle Pottery Supply, great stuff if anyone in the Seattle area has been looking for a good throwing porcelain.  Not translucent or anything but glaze looks fantastic on it and it doesn't turn to a puddle when you're throwing.

Bench is covered with orders for shipping out. mailbox (extra large box) is full with 5 boxes going out today. Packing UpS boxes today
going to Colorada-Washinton and Arizona states also SF in Ca..
Made deliveries yesterday to 4 Organic super markets.
another bisque on Sunday and glaze on Monday-business is off the charts for pre xmas
I can feel already that I will get redlined  on shipping this fall and may have to slow or shut it down so I can get work done.
I knew this business was recession proof now I know its pandamic proof as well. You just have to get your stuff in front of the customers. My local gallery who can only let in 3 customers is selling more pottery than last year at this time. The markets are doing the same as well.
I'm back to full time reluctantly .

There seems to be a fair few people lately asking about kiln wash. I'm going to pin this thread so it should be easy to find going forward. If you have a recipe and care to share it I thought a thread just dealing with kiln wash would be a good idea. This is what I have been using for about the past 20 years (electric kiln), mixed with enough water to make a runny yoghurt consistency, applied with small roller or house painting brush to high alumina shelves. Measured by weight.
    alumina hydrate 50
    calcined epk 25 (aka glomax)

I've had snails and wasps eat my pots when I set them outside to dry overnight!

My wife tied the scissors to our drawer handle because I kept losing them in my studio...  My ingenious solution was to go to Costco and buy a 3 pack of scissors...  I still have one pair and the only reason I still have it is that it's tied to my decal book.  :/

It arrived today.  I think I'll be keeping this one close by.

liambesaw got a reaction from Hulk in QotW: How many dogs out there are eating dried trimmings? Any cats insisting on “collaborating” while the clay is wet, or on photo day?
I have three dogs and a cat and none of them seem too interested in coming out to the shed.
That said, I have a resident squirrel, rat and a LOT of spiders.  The squirrel and rat need to go and I'm working on it, but the spiders can all stay, they keep the skeeters down.

So I mentioned before that my buddy was hit by a car while riding his motorcycle and I was working on a new tibia for him.  Well it's done and I'm giving it to him tonight after work.
Thrown and altered, crackle slip, etched aluminum plate and bolts, oak stand.

Well, not exactly on the workbench but I thought I'd share a peek at how my test herb markers did and a new shallow dish treatment that I like (PC Ancient Copper).

liambesaw got a reaction from Hulk in QotW: How much do you trim?
Hmmm, I find if I'm using porcelain I end up trimming more.   Which is a pain because porcelain really does a number on my trim tools.  But with porcelain I am usually making plates and bowls where the foot actually serves a functional purpose so I don't mind throwing them a bit thicker.
Mugs no. Vases, usually no.  Pretty much anything but bowls and plates forms, no.
It's not that I don't enjoy trimming, it's fun to make a big mess and see the spaghetti fly, but in a typical day it's maybe 20 hours between when I throw and am able to get out and trim, so I have adapted to not trimming as much.  Nothing worse than trying to trim something that has dried a little too much.

People trying to get away from the smoke in your area? Isn't that why they usually hit NorCal?

@Pres very cool, looks like a lot of work!  Are these for covid friendly communion services?

I have been working 60 hours a week at my real job, so haven't done a lot.  I did just open a glaze firing this last weekend though with some great stuff inside.  For some reason I've been throwing bottles and putting handles on them.
