  1. Oh yeah!!! So happy happy to see this "sidebar".

  2. P.S. You can link to my Pinterest from my website and I have many nice Clay boards.

  3. People have asked me about my Hidden Mask series, so I have inserted some comments on the individual pics in the gallery. I have been doing face-pressed pseudo masks for many years. This particular series is about "honoring the survivor", whether that be metaphorical or literal.

I saw your comments on your gallery, it looks like they are all quite deeply personal and emotional pieces, it's very moving, thank you for sharing

  4. Phooey--table top slab roller is "stuttering"--all bodies, all thicknesses.  Might be a broken sprocket. I hate having to take things apart and not being able to use something until I figure out what is wrong, how to fix it, and then do it, if I can.

      It's a Bailey...if I can't locate the problem I'll give them a call!

I have had 2 Baileys, dual rollers. Is yours dual rollers?

      they have good tech support.

  5. Phooey...I went to pay for my shelf area for the anagama firing in October and it's full!! Next is spring or summer, but I'll probably cave and do the pieces in my L&L.

Sorry you missed this opportunity, but as you write, there are other firing options now, and you can be first in line for Spring.

  6. Pleased with myself--had a good time peddling my wares at the First Friday Art Walk, Portland, Maine, a sidewalk event held on the main drag near the fine art museum.   No registration fee, no tent required, close-in parking, & I had a helper!

Way to go, Lee! Any day you can sell a piece of  your work is a good day, especially when there's no overhead and a lot of exposure :)

  7. Psyched...the NH Potters Guild (of which I am a member) is invited to participate in an August event at the Gallery at Well Sweep. They  want clay art specifically in the form of toys and musical instruments. I'm planning on 2 toys and a rattle.

  8. Started in on my first clay toy for a small event later this summer. Not so easy, but feels great to be back in the studio.

Lee, I think that carving must be your super power!  Great shape!

Beautiful turtle. Every Wednesday morning I start my day by greeting two very slow and peaceful Asian Brown Tortoises. Isn't the tortoise a good luck symbol?

      Denice

Great turtle, if you decide you want to sell it in your on-line store you could make a press mold.   Use some paper clay to keep the weight down.    Denice

  9. The challenge to Self these days is my old nemesis--lack of patience. So, to push myself into either a state of growing frustration or a state of growing acceptance, I am making myself replay old scenes in the hidden objects game June's Journey. That is a game that requires mega patience, on steroids. Why? you ask. Because I let myself actually run out of clay--all three of my main types. I ordered some, and they are out of the one I need the most and need the fastest! Go figure.   Another lesson in patience, coming right up. (Yeah, they are getting in it and shipping it soon.)

I bought clay a couple of days ago,  I thought I was out.  I looked at the companies web site and it wasn't listed,  freaked me out.   I had tried several clays  for throwing and this one worked the best for me. Turned out they had a new website and the web designer didn't include it.    When I was making space for the clay I found two bags that were covered with mold,  I bought it around Christmas.  Never had clay mold this fast,  using it first.   Denice

I heard from a pro potter that, like bleu cheese, mold in clay is good...

    4. Denice

      Denice

That is what it looks like, it is suppose to throw better.   I remember potters putting beer in when they were mixing clay they thought it would mold faster.   Denice

  10. The way I approach creating now is so radically different from how I approached it in the past. To a much appreciated extent, I am discovering the continuation of Self, which s a good thing, however slowly I get on with it.

  11. This is a test, this is just a test. I am trying to see if this (in Profile) is where one enters a status update and whether it shows up anywhere for others to read it.  I made a dedicated Status activity feed but it does not show anything from anybody.

LeeU. PM me and I will help you with this. There is another way to make feeds that can be easier. I can send you a screen shot if you would like.

  12. This potter is not active on the forums anymore, but maybe if you message a moderator maybe they can put you in touch. She went by "The Guinea Potter" but I think her name is Sarah. Try contacting Pres.

  13. Upset with self--spent funds on low fire clay and glaze and just plain do not like either.  :(  I guess I need to give it a fair chance.  I got them for making pendants.

  14. Very jazzed!! I just received  an invitation to participate in a raku firing this spring. I am going to focus  on  vase-like forms (not for water-dry only).   :)

Way to go Lee! By then I should have my testing done on sealants for the interior of raku pots and vases. I'm going to be trying rubber based materials like clear FlexSeal to see if I can waterproof my horsehair and other raku pieces...

Definitely interested in the results of the sealant.

  15. Well, it's got nuthin to do with ceramics, but  a big black bear just helped himself to the suet cakes hanging from my car port roof. He made a crushed wire mess of my pricey squirrel proof double cake suet hanger. I've been hanging suet for 8 years w/o being visited by a big fuzzy thief.  Guess I won't be putting that out anymore. Did I mention he was big? (And beautiful-a treat to see, truth be told).

Up on the porch is too close!!!  We occasionally have bears wander down....but it makes the news.  And the wildlife people are very good about getting the word out to not disturb the bears as they will wander back home.   Hopefully, your bear will wander back on the ridge.  You could put the feed on the ground....most of our birds will eat the seed the deer have spilled from the feeders.

I'll have to put my bear claws clay stamps to good use so I'm not clogging up the board with off-topic stuff! I'll make more biz card holders. There were 3  last nite--very unusual--mom  & 2 cubs--got in all the trash ready for pick up.  We're a single little street at the base of a small mountain, and near a big lake. The landlord called the fish & game guys--I think they encouraged them to go back home using the scent of dogs.

The bear stories are artistic inspiration.  We now have some fodder for our creative sides.  I have been working on a bear shape for my animal figures.

  16. What's on my workbench? Nothing...becasue it's all in the kiln!! (Finally). Yee Haw.

Is that a N.H. Yeehaw or a Texas Yeehaw? Trying to gauge your enthusiasm.

Pilfered from my sister.  She says it all the time. We are fom New Jersey -both of us lived for years in NYC--both moved to Virginia at different times (survival-long story) and while she is still there, I am in NH. So, long story long, I have no clue where she got it from. If you catch me saying Howdy, I pilfered that one from my daughter. No connections to Texas. High enthusiam--breaking out of a bad spell...and...just cracked the lid and all is right with the world (tho it's mostly  only a bisque). :P

Way to go, Lee! I could have said the same thing Monday, but I opened the kiln and now all 46 pots, bowls etc. are back on the workbench awaiting their destiny...;)

  17. Working like a fiend to end up with bisqued pieces via my kiln, for two pending fires off-site. One is a raku demo and the other a wood fire in an anagama kiln.  I procrastinated committing and thus painted myself into a corner, since I'll have to make & dry a lot of stuff right quick to fill my kiln and make the deadlines.

  18. Yay---my slab roller handle was not functioning and I was stymied on how to fix it. It was getting me down, really! A friend came by and within 3 minutes had it working again.  Something about using the Allen wrench in the right place!

      that would definitely help!

  19. Yeah, a little late in the day, but I am putting together my timeline and priorities for 2018. Would love to get some tips, so I posted a  query in Business, Marketing, and Accounting.

  20. Yee haw----1843 and climbing--never gets old.

  21. YEE HAW.............finally got the Status stream working and am getting new content! And I found the "Remove Stream" button---right in front of my nose, of course!!

Unloaded my kiln a few days ago-mostly pleased. Glazes were quite nice. It is the concepts and technical aspects of my pendants that I must refine. The better I get, the more I see the shortcomings in older work. I am glad I have no reservations about sending it to meet Mr. Hammer.

  22. AFter trashing several different approaches to my sister's honey jar, I have settled on a carved out solid block with a bit of commercial stamping. Soon to go into the bisque fire.

      Can't wait to see it!

  23. Dang!! Thanks to everyone helping me get this done...especially Ron and the magic of the url! I now have an avatar I can live with.

  24. Doing the last of the glazing for my next kiln load. Always exciting to begin to do another one-very grateful for getting back into art.

  25. Enjoying the building excitement of waiting for the kiln to cool down.
