1500 pounds of clay..mixed, pugged, de-aired, and packaged for 'mellowing'. Sing it with me: "You load 16 tons and whadaya get, another day older and deeper in debt..." (yep, I just told my age again).
-
A few people expressed an interest in my experiments with LaserJet decals. I just posted a before and after images in a gallery titled "LaserJet Decals"...including information on where to get the decal paper.

Nice! thanks for sharing! I have a brother laser printer, I'm tempted to try it and see if there is enough iron in it's ink to work.
-
Thanks all! I appreciate the comments. Min, there are MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) available for just about every laser printer cartridge. The MSDS will say something like less than 50% iron oxide...and that will definitely work.
-
I use the cheapo knockoff cartridge, MSDS was useless, think I'll just give it a try. (Or I could stop being cheap and buy the
name brand one if it's MSDS looks okay)

A fireplace makes a pretty comfortable place to brush underglaze details...particularly when it is chilly in the studio

I thought I was living large by having a coffee pot and mini frig. I have to up my game.
-
I tape, Nexflix, Hulu and HBO Go while I make clay and glaze. I never watched any TV before I got into pottery ....
-
I'm just waiting till I have a laundry sink and electric teapot and then I never have to leave the studio again!
-
After a month of conquering 4qt bowls, I'm finding myself much happier with 8 pounds of clay and just a 3qt bowl. Yes. That makes be about a 'quart low'...but we've known that for a while, right?

I would die if I tried making that!!
-
Ha! "Only" 8 lbs.? í ½í¸‰ My current limit is 5 lbs.
-
Cavy, I would get a hernia.

After a year of procrastinating, I finally printed my first batch of HP LaserJet decals, got them on test pots over the weekend, and am firing them today. Keeping my fingers crossed.
-
Ah, finally. A stay-cation so I can work in the studio...I hope to see the floor again after 3 days of de-crapinating the space

It's always faster to clean that I think it will be. Then you'll have a wonderful place to work!
-
Decrapinator? Did the Arnold star in that?
-
glazenerd... yes, I believe Arnold came "bah-ck" for that
-
Almost a full day of brushing underglazes. It is still a challenge to me to find the right mix of slips, stains, underglazes, and sprayed on top glazes. Hoping to fire later this week.
-
Another round of ice, sleet, and snow...nothing like the hammering that is going on in the Northeast, but I reserve the right to whine when my studio is too chilly for clay work.
-
We have the same weather. I could heat up my shop, I wouldn't work much today I have a bad cold. So I'll just save on my electric bill.
-
It's in the 50s and sunny today. I'd be a very happy rodent if it was like this 365 days a year, hehe!
-
*begin whine* Belmont University is closed for a second day in a row...there have been only 3 (maybe 4) closures in the last 15 years before these two days. It is truly N.A.S.T.Y. to get around walking or driving.*end whine*

At the moment, a wheel between my knees has been replaced with a fireplace at my feet. Brrrr!
-
Baby sitting the Bailey car kiln on campus today...always a little nervous about firing student work.
-
Back home from 10 days in Landon & Dublin...sometime today I'll figure out what day/time it is

Glad you had a good time in the Old World, Paul!
-
Ahh, sooo. Does LAndon = LOndon? Was wondering where you had been.
-
Around here if someone is going to LA it means lower Alabama..
Mobile/Fairhope area. :-)
-
Back home now from the NCAA Tournament. Great visits to museums in Charlotte...good times! It is catch-up time in the studio
-
Back in the dark ages when I first started using clay, I don't recall anyone telling me to be sure to photograph finished work...see, it is ALL their fault

COOL- brontoburgers!
-
Good thing you didn't waste your time ... I have hundreds of slides ... even I don't want to sort them!
-
Oh yeah ... And images on floppy discs. Really useful.
Throw money at someone to convert them all.
-
Back to the classroom for 8 weeks wearing my uncomfortable instructor hat... clay and forums will have to wait, but it is a 'separation' not a 'divorce'. Later, ya'll!
-
Bailey reached Cone 10 around 8:30 last night...now, the wait. 'Trying NOT to be in "are we there yet?" mode.
-
Distract yourself with fireworks!
-
I know what you mean about waiting. I came in the kiln room at the college to find the cart with the plywood backing all charred. What happened? Uh, I think we opened the kiln too soon. The dept head and assistant were a little eager to see how the new glazes turned out!!!
-
-
Bisque kiln fired, cooled, and unloaded. Yeah!! Onward to spraying ice-cold glazes...*bleh*.
-
Bisque kiln opening day...I'll be getting some help with the 'bending-over to unload' part..
-
Car kiln opening today around noon...'scheduled a Red Cross appointment for the morning just to avoid the temptation to crack it open
-
Changed the filter on my respirator and tapped out some of the dust that was captured..'pretty scary that some people just don't "get it".
- Show previous comments 1 more
-
What do you use the respirator for; glaze mixing, clay mixing, cleaning, all the above?
-
Ben, definitely when mixing glazes, clay, or sanding bisque...hadn't considered cleaning since I use a wet/sponge/mop process.
-
I wear my mask when I am cleaning. I usually start with my garage studio with a shopvac with a HEPA filter. I open my garage door all the way, and shop vac all the floor around my wheel and work shelve. Then I go back and wet mop the floor.
-
Clay mixing time...every time I do this, I feel a little 'groggy'. 'Sorry, that's the best I can do on one cup of coffee
-
Cleaning the studio. I should kick the person who made such a mess. Oh. Wait.

I'm pleadin' the Fifth on my studio's current state. Course...my studio is my living room... >.<'
-
That guy must have dropped by my place of late. .. no pictures please!
-
My studio is pin neat. Too cold for it to get mussed up.

Crunch time. Wrapping up custom orders for the holidays and looking forward to a little break around Christmas.
