oldlady got a reaction from Hulk in QotW: What is the silliest thing you have done or seen done dealing with Ceramics?
how about the day when i was loading the kiln and i readjusted some items on a shelf and put the shelf down, loaded another one above it and continued to the top.   when i opened the kiln and removed the shelves, one had a vase stuck to the bottom of it.   there was no post next to the vase and it was about a quarter of an inch shorter than the other 2 posts across from the vase so i never realized i had put the shelf down on the vase and not a post.
and i thought i had formed the habit in the beginning of putting the posts in first before loading anything.

chilly, looks like you've been having fun.   almost patchwork quilt style pots.  the little ones are really useful, too.

Today, on my workbench, is pot #1 of 3. Formed around a flower bucket, wrapped with bubble-wrap.

Wayne and I got together when I was halfway through art school for pottery, so he knew it was part of the package. He tried one afternoon to center a bit of clay on the wheel and decided it was NOT his thing, but that it didn’t need to be.

He has been my biggest source of emotional support the whole time. He made sure I got my pottery wheel at a time it wasn’t the most financially sound move ever and I told him not to. When we moved into our current house, my birthday present was him stripping the carpet out of a basement bedroom and scraping the floor so I could have a studio space. He gets me out of my head when I’m overthinking myself into anxiety. I truly have one of the best ones.

oldlady got a reaction from Russ in Argh!! Giffin grip gripe, anyone else have issues?
cstovin,    i had a similar problem with the replacement GIFF   I   N    GRIP years ago.  i found that i had not set it up properly, one of the rows of tiny, teeny, tiny grooves was off by one groove.
there is another problem i have seen with it, if you put it down on top of a bat pin, it will ride around like a tilt-a-whirl at an amusement park.    the cure for that is marking the wheel head with a sharpie once you have it set perfectly.   run a line down both sides of the bottom grips and use that line next time and forever after.
another tip is to put concentric circles on the grip to make the initial placement easier.
i rarely used the taller posts, but noticed when i did that they must be seated FIRMLY in the slot before use.

making a combination of things.  big pieces with leaves and birds and small, about 3 inches across lace impressed bowl shaped "containers".  the small items will sell if i can get a nice glaze in several colors.  the bigger ones also sell, depending on the venue.  but the small stuff is my version of mark's sponge holder bread and butter item.  not that they hold sponges, just that they sell quickly and bring in cash.

    got to make some glazes!

oh, hulk, that brings back some really good memories.   our  very tiny, 113 students in my grade, class put on some really fine musical performances.   it was a small catholic school in detroit and we had a nun who was a former opera singer.   i just wish i could find the 4 part Ave Maria we did.    we performed in the church mostly, was surprised to find it is now the cathedral for detroit.

my bicycle is happy that i finally put air in its tires and have taken it out of the shed.   i think i must have shrunk a little, my toes hardly touch the ground.   got to see if the seat can be lowered.  i don't go far, maybe 2 city blocks.   just hope nobody comes around the corner while i am approaching it.
finger exercise works too, typing here, playing solitare and playing two boards on the scrabble game help keep fingers nimble.

if you make a bowl with an inward sloping rim, boiling over should fall right back in, i think.
