For me, the all time favorite is Brother Thomas. Every page in the 2 published books of his work that I have make me feel like the village idiot. He had a huge range of glazes that were just masterful. Besides which, his porcelain throwing skills were beyond my comprehension. I don't know how much more art can do for you than that.

My personal favorite- Taxtile Doat. - most crystalline glazers count him as the godfather of this speciality glaze.

check out the 4 foot wide porcelain bowl he threw in 1910. 2 assistants turned the wheel.
Help found the University Pottery (University City, Mo.) 1910. Proceeds funded the Woman's' Sufrage Movement.
Teachers - he also wrote some of the earliest curriculum for Art Ed.
Have toured what is now called: University Museum.

Getting ready for my exhibition as one of 3 signature artists for our local Art Center Fundraiser; Art in the Beartooths. I have been firing and doing a few re-firings. Making interesting discoveries , at least for me regarding slight differences in temperature for soluble salts.

I'd include a small section of hacksaw blade. 1.5-2" for scoring and refining edges.

Couple soda jar re-fires, there were some wadding bits from the lids that fell inside the jars that needed to be dremelled out. Touched up the glaze in the bottoms and fired them to ^6 in electric kiln. Lost a bit of the flashing colour but came out okay.

The image is splendid. I adore pigs. (Except in my case, because I adore pigs, I wouldn't want the words).

when I was a kid the Philadelphia phone book was used for this purpose. It was about 3 inches thick. There are no phone books that thick in Montana. Oxford Dictionary made do.

Marcia Selsor got a reaction from Rae Reich in QotW: What matters the most to you when throwing?
My wheel is a Bailey that I got about 20 years ago. It is my 4th studio wheel since 1971. It is slower than Brents. I like that. Most important to me is the control of the form. I have been throwing some larger orbs. I had several go catty-wompus (sp?). I took them off the wheel, jiggled them to straighten and hung them out until they stiffened a bit. Then put them back on the wheel and and continued throwing. I do give up on some and just re-wedge them. Very excited about my new work with soluble salts.
