You Know You're A Real Potter When....

Recommended Posts

Wyndham- I took it as sarcastic yet frustrated at yourself. ;) After reading your post I realized I have a long way to go to be a "potter" as I have not yet made my own glaze recipe.

I've made three new glazes. Two are to be fired this week. But It hasn't made me a potter yet. Not yet. I think that comes after you have burned through more tons of clay than you have grandkids and great grandkids.

When you wedge one-handed . . . follow the link to June Perry's blog and watch the video posted Brett Kern. If you see yourself in the video, you're a real potter.

Good video, but am I the only one, who thought that instead of a treadmill, he should have been training on a kick wheel?

Also, was the order of the photos he crumpled progressive?  That is to say, is the unstoppable Russian "bad", Hitler "terrible", and Justin Bieber "pure evil"?

..................when I open the kiln door and...'IT WORKED !!!'

(preparing for exhibition next week, many seconds, NOT feeling like a 'real' potter!)

If opening the kiln and not being surprised that it worked is a measure of 'potter-hood', I may never get there.  I think it will always hold the same sort of magical quality as that of a child waking up on Christmas morning to find presents under the tree...and finding many seconds, Irene, is a theme song that I'd bet a lot of us know.

Maybe you're a potter when you discern that they are seconds!

When you've gone through the stage where you think you know a lot and then reach the stage where you realize that you don't know diddly about this crazy field. ;)
