shawnhar
No luck searching, but, what would happen if I sprinkled real gold around the bottom of a bowl and fired to cone 6? It looks like the melting point is 1900f and this would be a few hundred degrees above that, boiling point for gold is really high so I don't think it would burn out. Thinking of dipping a bowl and adding small tiny chunks of pure gold, not leaf. Would it melt into and merge with the glaze or cause blisters/defects? liambesaw
Might just melt into a puddle on top of the glaze you should try it
Callie Beller Diesel
That sounds expensive. Why not just get some gold lustre? It is real gold, and you usually fire it to 018 in a third firing after the glaze.
shawnhar
I spent a summer panning for gold a few years back and have some.

Mark C.
The gold will melt or posssibaly vaporize at that temp. If you must try the smallest amount.
JohnnyK
You might try a small piece in a waster that's glazed like the bowl you want to use just to see how it would react. If it doesn't vaporize since the boiling point is so high, but doesn't work the way you want it to, you could probably reclaim it...
Magnolia Mud Research
it's not likely that gold will vaporize in a cone 6 firing. Vapor pressure of gold is 0.2 kilopascals at 2200 Kelvin. atmospheric pressure is 101.3 kilopascals. http://www.kayelaby.npl.co.uk/chemistry/3_4/3_4_4.html LT
