My sister is moving to South Jersey to where we spent our childhood summers and did some crabbing every summer. Crab races in the kitchen while my grandmother prepared to make crab cakes. Great memories and hope to do it again next summer with my sisters. Love crab meat!Enjoy.

I'm back! Drove a 9 point buck out to a young hunter on Friday afternoon. . . his first rifle buck and largest deer. Have seen lots of deer, and have hiked nearly 20,000 steps each of two days, and something like 70 flights of stairs. Good exercise for a diabetic.

      best,

I know, that scaling back on work, might not be the norm for you, but healing is something that you want to get right.

Hurt by an apple tree.  Now I have images of those tree from the Wizard of Oz, throwing apples at Dorthy and crew.

  11. I had all three kilns going today-two cone 10 gas glaze fires and a electric bisque-solar system near maxed out running the 48 amp constant load-solar offset 37kw on that fire today. still needed some grid power to get it done in 8 hours.

bet the local fire dept. knows your location so they can ignore lots of reports of FIRE!

    2. Denice

      Denice

The college and art school I attended would have the fire department called on them constantly.   They both started firing at night.   I had a neighbor call on me when I was smoking some pots in a big barrel.  Didn't get a ticket,    I had all of the safety procedures taken care of,  they just asked me to call before I smoked pots again.  Denice

I'm rural and nobody calls-after 48 years firing here wax smoke  and heat is no big deal. The fire dept is in a small town a mile away.New cheif who does not yet know me.

Thanks, Mark. We moved to Loleta so that my now 93-year-old father could stay in his house and won't be moving anywhere as long as he lives. However, we recently bought a small farm in Ohio with one of our sons. He and his family have moved into the house on the property and plan to develop a CSA on it, while we plan to settle on the farm in retirement.  None of us know when that will be, but we want to  iron out all the details we can  now so we can hit the ground running when the time comes and so our son knows what part of the land will eventually have a second house (and driveway extension) on it and can plan accordingly.

Been off the last three weeks, and will probably take three more. Trying to decide if I want to hang up my tool belt after 42+ years. Maybe do some flip houses, or perhaps make some clay: or both.

Finally talked my husband into retiring he is turning 67 in Feb.   He's not retiring until the end of the year but at least he is agreeing to it.  He is doing the work of three or four people at his job,  they don't hire new people when someone quits they just dump it on him.  He likes his job but the over load is going to kill him.  His hobby is restoring old muscle cars it would be nice if he could work on them during the week instead of just weekends.  I also want to have him around for a long time after he retires.    Denice

  22. Last day selling pottery today-close booth at 3 pm and take it away.Very strong season this year for sales.Merry x-mas clay folks

      glazenerd

I know you have the count but I was curious: how many plates, cups, spoon rest,  etc. do you make a year?

    2. Mark C.

      Mark C.

I NEVER count  pots-If I did I would have gone crazy years ago. What I can say is I count tons of clay used per year-Its been about 10 the past few years  . This year  its about 7.5 for 2018 . Have not counted exactly  yet but thats my guess.I'm slowing down fast now but that said my guess is a few thousand spoon rests and the same with sponge holders. The rest I do not want to know.

  24. Last load of clay and dry materials today-this will feel good when done my helper bailed and I moved all 19 tons solo-I still can without hurting myself at my age.Clay is good for the body  right?

  25. loaded small gas kiln today-glaze day tomorrow for big kiln.Need to get some more wares shipped to VT next week.
