  8. Mesmerizing piece you have going on here--bravo!
  9. Finally figured this piece out, been thinking about for days. The replicated ash brings in the primitive look, as does the form itself. However, you are moving up the color spectrum from pastel to bright yellow. This shift in color is purely modern, abstract. By the book, it should not work by mixing period references. But it does, and does very well. The brushwork towards the top reminds me of a Picaso technique: not overly definitive.

Bar 1. completely vitrified - no color absorption. Bar2. Barely visible slight splotch on right side ( less than 5% absorption.) Bar 3. Cone 10 clay fired to cone 6. ( 10% +/- absorption) Bar 4 Over 12% absorption)

Drop red food color on unglazed sample fired to maturity. Allow to soak for 2 minutes: rinse clean with plain water (no soap) while wiping with towel. ( wiping, not scrubbing).

  13. Looks like I have a causalty of war in the studio. Went out early to shut down the two test kilns: one was frozen in "8888" LED status. Lightning came through at 4am/: think it is fried.

The invasion has begun. Better put on the aluminum cones. LOL I hope you were able to get your kiln going again. Story weather is beautiful; if you don';t have to fire. ;)

Can the controller be repaired? If these storms are persistent you may have to install a lightning rod ;-(

I turn off the main panel breaker, and individual breakers when I know they are coming through. This one got be my however...

  14. When I first pulled this image up, I did not see the cup: just the detailing. You know you hit white when it blends into a white background- very good.
  15. This piece captivates my attention, and I am not sure why. I am drawn to it.
  16. I find it very wise of you to market across a broad age bracket. Smart indeed. Besides, the little guy is rather cute.
  17. I usually shy away from the human form: but this was done with some great artistic expression. The scaling is dead on, the proportions are right. The octopus is so well executed, it looks like a real specimen. Barnacles, and other ocean effects- good eye. The problem I have with the piece is not bringing the bust line up. By cutting the upper and middle area away: it has a "bra" appearance along the edges. The nipple on the left seems more natural, softened. The one on the right seems protruded: exaggerated to the point of being pornographic. Are you going to leave this in a natural color, or do you plan on using color to further highlight details?
  18. Good eye for detail / detailing. The blend of colors is right. Proportionate. Very good execution with matching pieces. Pug, I think you have a very marketable line. I would caution you about under-pricing: this strikes me as a designer line and the prices should reflect that.

Absolutely stunning piece. The form capture the eyes, and yet keeps the eye from forming a focal point. The glaze is likewise just as captivating. This piece would look completely different if a different "colored" glaze as used. That is what makes artistry: knowing how to make the canvas fit the paint.

Crystals are fickle little creatures. It is actually much harder to control crystals on a flat surface than an ovoid pot.

I understand that emotion. When I bought the acreage we live on, it was littered with deer stands. Tore them all down, and one of the beighbors came over in a huff because some belonged to him. Great detailing work on this piece: even the muscular folds are represented.

Wish I had some artistic ability: just not there. I can appreciate the cleverness in the piece: but I can admire even more the technical skills required to make it. So fess up, what kind of clay can hold that shape when forming?
  24. You hit the glaze load and placement perfectly. Too much would have changed the proportions, and too little would have minimized the entirety of the piece. Nerd

Did you use the laxer technique on this piece? Excellent detail.
