  1. This evening is my very first show ever. I'm excited and also slightly terrified! My kiln load yesterday came out beautiful with lots of new designs to sell and my dad helped me build display shelves last weekend. Babysitter is coming soon and after that it's a mad scramble!

Thanks for the follow up. Interesting day it sounds like. I would keep making what you love and just find people who like it.

  12. Before I got sick, I'd been waiting for 40 lbs of recycled B-Mix kin a pillowcase to dry out enough to wedge. It took FOREVER. I wasn't even worried about having to stay out of the studio for two weeks. Well, I went in to wedge it last night ... it was hard as a rock and I have to start over. :( :( :(

Good to hear that you are feeling better. Not so good that your clay isn't cooperating :)

Haha! Thank you, I've been madly glazing and shipping tocatch up. When I carved into the huge mass, it was still leathery about 1/2" under the surface, so I have hopes that if I wrap it in soaked towels for a few days that will reconstitute the outside and I can start wedging.

You might be able to cut and slam at this point to even things out. I find the pillowcase method doesn't dry as evenly as I'd like it to, but it does have some other convenient points.

Having a mad and intense slip trailing session. I'm making these mugs specially as gifts for my husband's coworkers.

  14. From the album: Work in Progress

This is a special pie plate made with two tones of casting slip. I then decorated it with leaves and swirling vines in slip and sgraffito carving on the inside.

To date this is the most I've ever thrown in one session. A full half box of clay and ohhh were my hands ever sore the next day.

  16. From the album: Work in Progress

Thrown, carved with poppies, decorated with underglaze and awaiting final glazing and firing. Shown with some of my slip cast Moroccan platters and other unglazed bisque in the background.

  17. From the album: Work in Progress

Three wheel thrown pieces made with Speckled Buff clay. The interiors are then painted with white stoneware slip and the outside is carved with grass and flowers.

  18. From the album: Work in Progress

This was a mug body that got way too thin and started to ripple, so I went with it. I really like the result and plan to make something like this again only on purpose this time.

  19. From the album: Work in Progress

Three wheel thrown pieces made with Speckled Buff clay. The interiors are then painted with white stoneware slip and the outside is carved with grass and flowers. Then underglaze is applied to the grass and white engobe to the flowers so the colors will show true.
