  11. Thank you. I learned by just coping other people's work or pictures. But just as a training method. Like anything, practice is needed to become good at any thing. And always have fun.

    Sushi Plate

Awww man, glazenerd, that was so awesome to hear. And I have decided to make a run with porcelain. I got bit by that porcelain bug. lol. And I think it would a step in the right direction for me. Thanks for the earlier suggestion. I will refire the candle holders this weekend. I'm putting in a vent hood for the kilns to get some the fumes out. Anyway, thanks for all your support and kindness.
  13. From the album: Plates

This is a test for my new sushi plates. From this I will make others with corrections that I think will work best. Like outlining the bird. And maybe darken the filaments of the flowers. This is one of an animal series. They will be wall hangers and serving plates. Cool right? Comments welcome. Measures 7.25"x11".

I have been teaching myself to use less water. I set out one cup of water to throw 3-5lbs of porcelain. It forces you to use less water.

Going with the original question .. which Laguna clay are you trying to get translucent?? Not all Cone 5/6 porcelain will be no matter how you fire them.

Chris, TBH, I don't remember. I had thrown the box away and without thinking about what clay it was. I know it was porcelain because I maked it on the bag that I had soaked in a 5 gal bucket. Mystery Porcelain:P. I like working with it. I get my clay from either, http://www.roadrunnerceramics.com/ in San Antonio or http://www.armadilloclay.com/ in Austin, Tx. This clay has some translucency in some parts. I would love a recommendation.

I don't know, but it looks to be in good condition. You should give more info, like amps and voltage. How old, where you are located. What is the model? Who makes it? Try selling it on eBay or Cregg's List. Try posting in a local paper or even take a ad in a school paper. Best of luck.
  19. Yea, first test, ^04, fired great. I rebuilt my small kiln, Paragon A-82B, new bricks, elements and controller rewired with new infinite switches. Now I go for the gold, ^6.

mark, have always had them but when my cataract surgery was done in 02 they mostly disappeared. until an accident when i hit the tree going over the edge of the road. i think the surgeon stirred up the stuff inside the eye.

Are you recovering from the surgery? Yep the floaters are a pain, but you can still see the clay, right??

Yup, visions fine. And I think the floaters went on vacation, or that lump of clay is a mighty big floater, LOL. But, I'm fine tha k you Roberta.

    Me on the phone

I use to have one of them phones. They just don't make em like that anymore.
  23. I had some Laguna ^5 Porcelain sitting around in a 5gal bucket for a year or so. Sooo, I cleaned my wheel of stoneware (spotless) and my tools, so I made some candle holders with in the Mishima technique. Do you think it would be better to fire with a clear glaze of without? I want the colors in the design to be bright.

      glazenerd

Yes you can. You will see some color shifts, pending the amount of iron in your stoneware clay. Colors will be brighter, different hues perhaps.

again, I concur with the venerable Nerd. I go back and forth from porcelain to a white stoneware.
