I love all the varied shapes a good mug comes in. The shape is my current favorite. It works well to separate the textured areas from the geometric sgraffito in the bottom. It has a pulled handle and commercial glazes and was fired to cone 6 electric. -

Love doing this Adam Field style carving - very therapeutic! Have designed similar patterns of my own for future pieces. -

I don't even want to talk about how long this took to make ... more a work of art than a production piece. But I enjoyed making it so much and this is the first piece I've ever made that came out even better than I imagined. I love everything about it (this never happens to me). I used white slip on the inside of the bowl and white engobe on the flowers so the colors would show true. It worked very well, but some of the little speckles showed through anyway, which I found completely charming.© Copyright Giselle Massey 2015 All Rights Reserved

From the album: Handbuilding work
Two of my dogs like half and half and sugar with their coffee so I made a couple of mug covers to keep them out. There is a footring to keep the cover from sliding off the mug. The gingko leaf was carved at leather hard using a needle tool. I'm very happy with the way they turned out. -
From the album: Handbuilding work
Trinket dish with carved goldfish design. The carving was done after the piece was just past leather hard and heading to bone dry. I got a little chipping but with the design and glaze it looks pretty interesting. This is also a lesson in creating a spinner ... no footring and one of the clay supports slipped out of position when it was drying so it's a little wonky but it's on my desk!
