  1. Some of you awesome folk have worried about Guinea, but I'm alive. Been a bit too sore for clay lately, but I've been drawing a lot. I have lots of new ideas for clay stuff, too, when my joints feel up to it. I wanna get funky! ^_^

It's been frustrating as heck... even painting is exhausting to me nowadays. But, we just gotta keep trying, I suppose. :3

  2. Is it weird that I'm nervous to start slab building..? Hnnghhh...

Make up some magic slip for your joints.

No worries with slabs. Just let them dry evenly and slowly. Put them together, so they hold their weight enough, without being too dry. And smooth/ round the seams well.

When I roll out slabs I usually cut the shape I want then let them rest for a while to firm up. Less soggy to handle, especially with larger pieces. Also, a clay with a little grog in it helps. Less warping and firms up better.

  3. Working on a graphic novel, and one of my peoples have a South American-flavored culture. Been doing some research on how the natives made pottery--lots of terracotta and erotic pots. Slip and terra sig for ages, too.

Are we talking graphic as in lots of visual illustrations, or graphic as in "R" rated?

      Cavy Fire Studios

Both, lol. It's going to be pretty violent, but that's only part of the story. :D

  4. Just uploaded a few new gallery pieces (finally)! More will come, but I didn't want to hog the screen up, heehee. :3

Hehe, that's my fella. :D He fancies himself a corgi-fox with a taste for tea. He wanted him looking grumpy and cold in the woods. :D Thanks, Benzine!

I know! You get like, what? Five per day? So silly.

  6. Cavy Fire Studios. That is my final choice of a name. It's actually a rather personal name, as my daily pain is a trial by fire for me--just like what my ceramics endure. The cavy brings me joy--two halves to one whole. Don't care if it's too cutesey to some, as one cannot please everyone--I am cavy fire!♥

Yes, please call me Guinea. ^_^ And my logo is totally going to have pottery in it, and a peeg. Must have peeg. Not many people know what a cavy is, but a picture will help. A cavy is a guinea! ^_^

I hope your logo is a guinea pig going super saiyan

Hahaha! I was thinking a peeg poking out of a pot with a graphic fire symbol behind him. Maybe the name will be on the pot. :3

  7. I wish more people would upload piccies to the gallery. :3 It's so nice to see what everyone has been working on and stuff.

I know, when I see a new person I always go to see what they've made. I was surprised at how many people don't have ANY pictures shared at all. LOL I had three albums by the time I'd been on here two days!

  8. ...that moment when you realize your hard work got uncovered somehow before you were able to trim it... ;.;

Hahaha! I keep saying I gotta hire a studio monkey to wedge clay for me, but now the job apparently includes cleaning up after my derpy moments. :D

  9. Yesterday, I saw a pug that was so happy and excited, he was walking at a 45-degree angle against his harness. Sideways Pug got me thinking that I should put more pugs on my pottery. Been kind of running short on ideas...

  10. Made four bowls and three mugs off the wheel just now. My pants look awesome. Time to nap!

Pbfth! I let them think that. I DID remember to change my pants before going to Safeway, though. :D On the pooper side, I woke up with my right hand stuck in a fist. Hnghhhh....

      GiselleNo5

      Ohhhh your poor hand! :(

In response to the other comments: once I had been scraping shelves and painting them with kiln wash. I forgot about it and went to the store because the next day I was making some desserts for a party. The cashier looked at me and then said, "Oh, have you already been baking?" I said no and was so confused until I got home and saw what my shirt and pants looked like in the mirror. She must have thought it was flour and sugar. I was a MESS. LOL

Usually the indicator of how much fun I've had is the amount of clay in my hair! I throw with a big towel over my legs. But yeah, you get the odd looks from the other Moms when you pick up the kid from school...

  11. Are any of you guys having trouble changing your avatar? :(

      Judy_in_GA

I am new and tried to update my profile today. The picture would say it was uploading then available to crop but it wouldn't display.

  12. HNNGH HNNGH HNNGH! There's a wee test kiln on CL for $400 that is practically MINT. Oh, WHY do I have to be broke until Juuuune....we sure have expensive taste, us ceramicists. :D

    1. GiselleNo5

      GiselleNo5

I resisted doing this for two of the last three years. I did little projects, I made my stamps. No glaze for those. So cheap. I finally gave in, I'm setting up my studio and I'm so broke!!!

    2. GiselleNo5

      GiselleNo5

I'm so frugal about everything else, too. Jewelry? Nah. Haircut? Won't spend more than $25. Shoes? Only if they're buy one get one free. That all goes out the window when it comes to pottery equipment! LOL

    3. High Bridge Pottery

      High Bridge Pottery

I keep looking at free kilns on the internet and wanting to take them all. If only I could lift the weight of 4 men by myself.

  13. I've been looking at that porcelain canvas stuff, and getting ideas. Do you think a diamond bit could drill a hole in it for hanging?

use water and you might get some silicon carbide powder it make a paste to dip the tip of the bit. Keep it wet.

    3. Marcia Selsor

      Marcia Selsor

start with a small size bit and work up to the size you want. I'd recommend epoxying a metal hanger on the back rather than a hole.

      Cavy Fire Studios

Oh yeah! Man, I really prefer the aesthetic of a threaded wire over epoxy, though. Epoxy is just so messy and it stinks to handle. Maybe I could learn to put wire along the corners like jewelry makers do with big stones, or something. :)

  14. My Fred is officially hooked up. Dusted out his exhaust system and checked the elements. Back to splattery mud fun mañana.

I wedged about 3/4 a 25lb bag before calling it a day. Putting the pride in a bucket was hard, but I gotta start being nice to myself. Tomorrow's 71 and sunny in Davenport, so I'm gonna throw in the sun. 'Tis good for the joints and the mud. :3

Thankies. :3 Waiting a few hours for the weather to warm a little today (it's just before 9am) so I can throw outside in the sun. :3

  15. Finally hooking my kiln up this weekend. Been a rough couple weeks, but hot-place or high water, I`m cranking out yarn bowls like a madrodent.
