We've been in the mid to upper 90's. Heat index here has been 105 to 110. Lots of stomach cramps.
-
Drink lots of water! I was in Santa Maria for the day a couple weeks ago. It was only about 101 but we were driving around shopping for clothes so we were constantly in and out of the car. I wasn't drinking enough water at all, and I ended up with heat exhaustion. I didn't feel that bad until the next day and then I was laid out. Not fun and I cannot recommend it. I do think it hit me worse than normal because I had just gotten over the flu. But man, drink water by the gallon.
-
Indeed, GiselleNo5. I drink about 8 to 16 glasses a day. It's after 10am right now and I'm soaking wet. It's a good sauna. Thanks for your advice.
-
I wish more people would upload piccies to the gallery. :3 It's so nice to see what everyone has been working on and stuff.
-
some of my works in progress were posted today, i will be removing some of them and putting up new ones.
-
I saw that! You should keep them up for good memories. :3
-
I know, when I see a new person I always go to see what they've made. I was surprised at how many people don't have ANY pictures shared at all. LOL I had three albums by the time I'd been on here two days!

I'm a sad guinea today...I just found out the founder of The Art Spirit gallery, my favorite place, passed away on Dec. 31st from ALS. Guys, he was so awesome. He really liked my work & encouraged me to submit it... I'm really sad...

So sorry to hear this...sounds like you and the artworld have lost an important light.
-
You can be sad but also thankful that he is no longer trapped in his body. I have had nine relative die of ALS and we are always grateful when they have been set free.
-
Denice ... nine? Ohhhh. :*( It's a prison at the end. I can't imagine. My grandmother had dementia and my mom basically lost her ten years before she died. But at least my grandma had no idea.
-
I'm gonna try my paws at chopstick jars next.

I think I injured my shoulders (well, I KNOW I did) cleaning my humongous rabbit's poopybutt nightmare, and wedging just took the taco.If I'm not better by Monday, I'm calling the doctor. I have an ice pack on it and am sitting on my bum, totally bored. It hurts to even slightly move my arm; I'm typing with my phone. Argh! >.<
-
I'm sorry, I hope you get better. Ouch.
-
Feel better soon!!
-
I'm one tired guinea pig. Made seven yarn bowls and two medium-large food bowls, trimmed and pencil sketched. Gonna be kyoot! WIP pics to come. I sure miss my 30-piece a sitting days, though...

I've been looking at that porcelain canvas stuff, and getting ideas. Do you think a diamond bit could drill a hole in it for hanging?
- Show previous comments 1 more
-
use water and you might get some silicon carbide powder it make a paste to dip the tip of the bit. Keep it wet.
-
start with a small size bit and work up to the size you want. I'd recommend epoxying a metal hanger on the back rather than a hole.
-
Oh yeah! Man, I really prefer the aesthetic of a threaded wire over epoxy, though. Epoxy is just so messy and it stinks to handle. Maybe I could learn to put wire along the corners like jewelry makers do with big stones, or something.
-
Is it weird that I'm nervous to start slab building..? Hnnghhh...

-
Make up some magic slip for your joints.
-
No worries with slabs. Just let them dry evenly and slowly. Put them together, so they hold their weight enough, without being too dry. And smooth/ round the seams well.
-
When I roll out slabs I usually cut the shape I want then let them rest for a while to firm up. Less soggy to handle, especially with larger pieces. Also, a clay with a little grog in it helps. Less warping and firms up better.

It dropped down to 0F/-17,8c here last night. I wanna fire Fred...but, will my cooling pottery be safe in such frigid temperatures? D:

I know that Fred is insulated, but one of the windows is broken out, so it's 0F in the garage. It got down to -4F last night... Thankfully, this cold snap is abating. I'm just gonna wait!!
-
Yep, I'm safe. I'm a big fat rodent with plenty of insulation and lots of layers!!
-
It's 1:00am, and I just finished glazing. Time for this tired creaky rodent to paaaass out!!
-
Just uploaded a few new gallery pieces (finally)! More will come, but I didn't want to hog the screen up, heehee. :3

Hehe, that's my fella. He fancies himself a corgi-fox with a taste for tea. He wanted him looking grumpy and cold in the woods. Thanks, Benzine!
-
OK, you're killin me here...you know that, right? <3
-
Awww, nuuu! No dying for you!
-
Kiln loaded with a whopping three pieces and a buncha kiln posts for filler. This is my first bisque in the garage...I'm mother-henning it hardcore!
-
Made four bowls and three mugs off the wheel just now. My pants look awesome. Time to nap!

Pbfth! I let them think that. I DID remember to change my pants before going to Safeway, though. On the pooper side, I woke up with my right hand stuck in a fist. Hnghhhh....
-
Ohhhh your poor hand!
In response to the other comments: once I had been scraping shelves and painting them with kiln wash. I forgot about it and went to the store because the next day I was making some desserts for a party. The cashier looked at me and then said, "Oh, have you already been baking?" I said no and was so confused until I got home and saw what my shirt and pants looked like in the mirror. She must have thought it was flour and sugar. I was a MESS. LOL
-
Usually the indicator of how much fun I've had is the amount of clay in my hair! I throw with a big towel over my legs. But yeah, you get the odd looks from the other Moms when you pick up the kid from school...
-
My clay creation was interrupted by a HORRIBLY abscessed premolar whose root canal just about killed me, but it's 74F today, my tooth's finally shut up, and it's terracotta throwin' time!!

I've had two root canals and they both had to be redone. The first one I was allergic to the silver points used in it. The second one was just a curvy tooth that was difficult.
-
Ouch Man! That cool water bucket is gonna feel good.
-
Ouch! hope you get well soon.
-
My fella got me a rolling pin and a bag of natural sponges from the thrift store! Gonna get on slab adventuressss... ♥
-
My Fred is officially hooked up. Dusted out his exhaust system and checked the elements. Back to splattery mud fun mañana.

I wedged about 3/4 a 25lb bag before calling it a day. Putting the pride in a bucket was hard, but I gotta start being nice to myself. Tomorrow's 71 and sunny in Davenport, so I'm gonna throw in the sun. 'Tis good for the joints and the mud. :3
-
Glad to hear you are getting yourself set up again.
-
Thankies. :3 Waiting a few hours for the weather to warm a little today (it's just before 9am) so I can throw outside in the sun. :3
-
My uncle's coming over to wire the house up right so I can fire my Fred! Hooray! ♥

yay fred has mojo back.
-
All good things come in time. And if you have a handy uncle.
-
I don't have an uncle but we have a friend that is a electrician, master plumber and heating and air repairman.
-
New cute avatar, heehee!

Awww, gee! Thanks, guys! ♥

-
So, guess who got her pottery juried into a gallery for an animal charity event? This rodent! 20% goes to charity and the rest is for me. SO PROUD.

-
You rock, girl!!! Hope you'll post some pictures of the pieces going into the gallery!
-
Thanks for helping the animals and a big congratulations.
-
Thanks, everyone! Underglazing my second piece!
-
So, guess who literally found almost $100.00 worth of underglaze at a thrift store in a bag marked $5.00? And then won a $1.00 discount off of it? YEP; THIS guinea pig!!

Sweet score indeed!
-
Dayum girl! Which thrift shop was this? I'd love to make a find like that!!! <3 Nice score!
-
It was way up in Newport. David and I were in the mood to travel, so we went up north through Newport, then Sandpoint, then to CDA, then home. We found such treasures!!
-
So, I went to the local dump to drop off some recyclables, and the dude running the place gave me a MOUNTAIN of fatty industrial BUBBLE WRAP for FREE! He's giving me EIGHT huge boxes of peanuts, too! My shipping's gonna be good for years!
- Show previous comments 3 more
-
good deal. pays to scrounge. our gallery gets bubble wrap from another business that needs to get rid of it when they receive stuff.
-
"Peanut Scrounging"...Why not ask the forum for ideas on where best to get free packing materials?
-
It's always a plus. Good for you.
-
So, my fella is awesome. He found a grippy turnstyle thingy at a thrift store and got it for me. It has little padded prongs to grip cup-like objects for decorating, so I don't have to hold it while I underglaze!

Lucky Day, keep this fella
-
We've been together a year and a half, and no way his butt is takin' off on me. He's an artist, too! ♥
-
In a couple of more weeks; wife and I are coming up on 35 years.Just to remind you- it can be done!
-
So, yesterday, my fella and I went to the local game/book shop to get some DnD dice (#nerd), and I remembered there is a pottery shop in there. I walked out with the SWEETEST little mug! The lady who was working that day made it, too. I'll post a pic when I get back home.
