I do not do as many shows as many of you, but my average is 1/2 cash 1/2 CC.  Pretty much everywhere I do shows.  I think the urban areas may be higher in CC sales.  I agree with Neil.  CC fees are simply a cost of doing business.

I had this conversation with a friend who lives 150 miles south of me,  and she was quoted $500 per year.  Covers liability  and her studio and equipment!  Right now, mine is $425 per year.  Liability, studio equipment, etc.  State Farm for me.

I have shows that are 80% CC sales, and other shows that are 80% cash sales. It just depends on the area and clientele. I find that a good percentage of people at art fairs understand that using a CC costs us 3%, and they try to use cash as much as possible. But by early afternoon most people are out of cash and if they really want something they're going to use a card, although they tend to apologize. At least 75% of the money that goes through my business is via credit cards, and always has been.

It's legal in all 50  states to offer a cash discount as long as you notify before their purchase. Just have a sign that says so in easy view.
I've been accepting credit cards for over 30 years and I assure you the fees are cheaper today than when I started
I had a customer this weekend while paying cash for a mug say to me if she had more cash she would buy more but hated paying the 3% CC fee everyone charges for using a CC.  I told her I don't charge that fee but I do charge sales tax. She walked off with $300+ more worth of pots. Why would one quibble for paying $9 to get an extra $300 in sales?  (Or $30 for each $1000 in sales for that matter)?

I think there’s nothing wrong with increasing your prices to reflect increased business costs, which credit card fees definitely are. But from a customer service standpoint, and even a general professionalism one, I think it’s better to just roll it in.
    1) I don’t want to put myself or an employee in a position that sets up angry “what the heck is this extra fee? Are you trying to scam me?!” conversations. There is a segment of the population that just wants to fight with retail workers, and I have no patience for being on the receiving end of it anymore. It’s best to prevent as many scenarios like this as possible.
    2) An itemized list of all of my expenses is really none of my customer’s business. They don’t need the gory details.

Its now legal to do this now.(pass the fees on)  Most around here do not do this yet.If the public is used to it no big deal. I always add tax no matter what.
I have never done it and am almost out of shows-only one out of state show left this summer-then only a local show moving forward.

Our banking laws are different here, and we’re not allowed to add a POS surcharge onto card sales.  I’ve always viewed credit card fees as part of my COGS, and just incorporated it into the sticker price. I’ve seen a few people offer cash discounts, but that’s becoming more and more rare.
Taxes are taxes, and the government gets bent at me in ways I don’t like if I don’t collect and remit.

I sprinkle copper filings onto plaayters and bird baths. A blck/ green speckle obtained  . By size of those strips may be black metallic with  green but would be dependant on underlying glaze. Mine had tin as opacifier

    Earlier, same room.
We're using concrete anchors to fasten the frame.
We hold that rectangle of sheetrock again' the window framing so it comes up again' the window where we want it - simple.
That 2" poly board is rated three more R than the less expensive board.
All the materials have gone up, up up! ...about a third, since we did the first room, last August.

That's the view out the front door

This is Camp Fire country, much quieter now.
Along this stretch, over half the homes burned.

These photos were from April 12.  The first one, looking straight on to the patio, is my view from my studio.  Our basement is garden level, so I have nice light.  I can watch the birds as they come to the patio for a drink from the dog's water bowl, or to find a place to nest.  The 2nd photo is simply looking from the upstairs at the  birdbaths filled with snow that day!
The snow is gone now for sure!  We have had lots and lots of wind this spring.  Once again, we are concerned about the fire danger.  Seems to start earlier every year.

    "Studio" the last few weeks.
Here we're building out the cinder block 2.75", filling the bays with 2" insulation foam, pulling new wiring all around, hanging and finishing sheetrock, repairing and restoring the ceiling and other walls, texture, prime, paint, electrical finish.
Next, the third bedroom, which has one exterior wall, one window.
Here the lid is painted, next, walls.

    Next door.
Toms are full on this time of year.

I did a demo workshop on about 8 of the wispers-they are quiet and thats all they are -they can be slowed down easy with a medium amount of clay and the splash pans are cheesy and will break over time. The cords are to light duty as well. Thats my take-oh ya they do not have good fast service/parts like Brands made in this country
a pancake motor is like Naan bread only made on a charcoal fire a low heat-when done its a low torque flavor that is really quiet and small

It’s not uncommon that some underglazes in some colors have a more refractory effect on the overglaze, especially thick applications of underglaze. Your overglaze does not appear to be super melted to me, might just be the picture though or the stiffness of the glaze. Wash underglaze effects often have less effect on the overglaze.

Thanks all-- I'm not sure if it's coffee or mold, but either way, I'm planning to refire it to see if that helps. I figure either it fixes it, or this mug goes in the bin like it would have anyway.
Amaco suggested decreasing the HF-9 glaze I used inside from 3 coats to 2, as they said it looks like the glaze pooled here, causing lots of little bubbles that eventually wore through.  I plan to try that going forward, and also to run some tests with the orange underglaze.  Everywhere I used that orange, it turned into a sort of orange-peel texture (no pun intended) after glaze firing.

“Should be vitrified” isn’t “I tested it under my own firing conditions to make sure”.
Stuff is getting into the pinholes, and possibly under the glaze. There is an ick factor here for sure. If this is just a personal piece, you might try re-firing it to see if the pinholes needed a little more heat work to clear. It’ll also burn out those black spots.

My home has forced air heating, so my studio has a heating vent in the ceiling. Because my studio is pretty close to the furnace that blows air through the whole house, I have to keep things pretty clean. As much as everyone seems to hate mopping, it’s gotta happen on the regular.

i keep my studios pretty clean and i love fresh air.  windows are usually open if the temp is warm enough.  ac is on in the hot summer if i am working.  yes, i use fans, one in the window in the door in florida blows past me and since the space is not large and it is only a 10 inch fan, the air movement is gentle.  i avoid making dust and move anything that produces much of it outside where i work away from any openings into the studios.
i figure it takes 30 years to get sick from silicosis and at 81, i do not care if i get it at age 111.

No fans.  I bought a eheat Envi wall heater for my space last year.  I have been so happy with it.  Puts out a nice even heat with no fans.  Our winter has been pretty cold this year.  Glad to have the heater.    Since my work space is in the basement, even with 100 degree plus weather, it stays relatively cool. So I don't need a fan in the summer.  I do have a pet spot cleaner that I use for windowsills and corners and places I cannot easily mop.  It sucks up the dust nicely.
