  1. Hi Babs, did you ever find an Aussie substitute for Ferro Frit 3195? I have been searching, searching online, and your enquiries keep on coming up, so wondered if you had found a solution?  I really don't want to have to import it from the USA... Many thanks

No. Though Frit 3134 which was unavailable came up on Walkers list rexently.

I chose to use another recipe provided by Dick White.

      Frits are becoming so expensive.

Ask the Forum, post your recipe and someone will rejig it for you, they are very helplful.

  2. The firing "tree" I use for my wood fired raku is made of steel mesh. It was bent into a triangle shape and wired to the base.  I've used it for at least a a half dozen wood firings.  It has warped slightly with use.                                                                                             I like using a "tree" because it allows me to pull all of my little pieces out of the kiln at the same time.

      Great idea!

I guess my idea of raku involved grabbing pots and placing them in various reduction stuff but the tree is a  really practical solution to firing little bits not going down that path. Love it and your bits

Jay you seem to have  a fine glaze there or are you still testing to get a mellower amber? Is this glaze more or less fluid than yo'd like?

I was told to go around the sprigged edges where The sprig meets the body with a brush and slip of the same body so making that meeting less abrupt and so taking the glaze in a different manner.

Just saying as your meeting places look fine. Also "fettling" the glaze after application so bubbles and stuff are smoothed out prior to firing on those same areas, as you would do with any glaze application around a handle which seems thicker or "Bubbled" after glaze application.

      Just saying.

      Fine stuff, thanks for sharing.

  17. met up with my husband in Amarillo. He was a day behind me but got an early start at 5 am and hit the snow too. Now we're driving together.I thought I lost a cat but today she appeared in the van after spending the night hiding hopefully in a warm moving blanket. She appeared in the litter box behind the seat. I am amazed and happy to still have her..Made it to Cheyenne, Wyo. and tomorrow to our new home. Our friends plowed the driveway and sidewalk is shoveled.

  20. Random thought, what would happen, if a Raku piece were put in a container of cooking oil as a means of reduction?...

      Babs

let that random thought just pass, do not pay attention to it!

Stick to pumpkins, could put some interesting things in to the hollow pumpkin.NOT oil..
