you beat me, Pres. I stayed over at a friend's in Billings. Doing laundry today. Had a great time hanging out with you and the others. Also caught Spring's very personal talk on her own educational experiences from travelingl. It was great to meet her in person.
-
Both of your friends were fun also, I hope the one is well on her way to recovery. Great seeing you once again. I can post pictures later on this week.

of snow over night and really coming down ...stll. Dog won't go out even on a shoveled path. Glad my studio is attached to house.

fired my test kiln yesterday. Loaded at 23 degrees, went down to -6 overnight. Not in a heated shed. That little kiln is 20+ years old. Only replaced a switch on it over this time. I have a spare element in case I need it. It just has a cone sitter and timer. Its a Crucible from Seattle pottery.

just started firing tonight. Thought tomorrow was going to be nice. Wrong. Wind and snow. So while it is nice today, I got it loaded and firing. Should be done turning it up by 9...my bedtime. Timer and cone setter should take care of the rest. I'll check it about 5 am.
Firing espresso cups for Matt to take back to DC, mugs for a friend and tea bowls for another friend. The back to show pieces.

Will be glad when winter is over.

there was a really strong wind last night as well as my motion detector light on the kiln shed going on and off. Checked the kiln at midnight. It was off. Shut off security light and went back to sleep.
Will unload after I walk the dog.

worked in the studio after finishing taxes this week. Preparing for the 3rd annual Ceramics Invitational at the Radius Gallery in Missoula in May.

Oh boy; the fun stuff.
-
ahhhhh- don't say taxes - its a dirty word!

my husband is coming home next week so we can take them to an accountant. So we have the move and setting up my studio plus his living expenses in Alexandria. Pretty complex.
But I've done what I can without all the forms yet to come in.

I can't even imagine that much snow, we had 12 inches of snow when I was a teenager and it shut the whole town down. My mom sent me to the grocery store to stalk up on groceries and all of the stores were close, I saw a city bus slide around the corner and tip over so they cancel bus service. It took about three days before the city was open for business. Denice

I live in a ski resort.

must go shovel driveway and patio. home maintenance chores.

fired a few more saggar pieces yesterday. Waiting for the snow to return. The accumulated snow in the north yard ranges from 1 ft. to 3 ft. but the patio is clear and where I have my kiln right now. It is nice to be able to watch the pyrometer while cooking dinner.

Much like last Winter, we have been lacking with the snow. Last February, my wife and I expected to have to drive to the hospital, in a blizzard, while she was in labor. Instead, it was in the 70s that week... Thus far, this Winter we have had some accumulating snow, but after numerous days above freezing, it is all but gone.
Weird weather...

I spent 2 hours today chopping ice off the driveway. Snow is melting and freezing. We've had a total of about 40 inches this year. Where shoveled off the pavement dries. I have my kiln on the patio covered with a big metal basin over a plastic wrap.

Looks like it was just hewn and polished, fresh from the quarry. One of the more exceptional examples of minimalism I have seen. Well done!
-
Thanks.
I love seeing what happens with various things like grasses and seaweed.

Home alone again. Husband returned to Va. to work. He was telecommuting for 2 of the three weeks he was here. He did manage to do some jam sessions at the Snowcreek saloon. Mother-in-law spent a week over Christmas with us. I am now back to the studio. I did some reorganizing of layout to improve heat flow. its nice in there when the temperature i up to high 30s. Around -10 the studio temperature went down to 55. I have a kerosene backup if I need it.
Happy to be in the studio again.

My studio in the basement is unheated. I use a small room heater when the temp drops, but I don't like the fan blowing. So I was thinking of getting one of the radiant wall heaters....But my space is very small....10x11. In the shop where I glaze/spray booth/kiln is unheated and very well insulated. So a small space heater will take the chill off quickly. I found those radiant wall heaters on Amazon. Very reasonable.

just received a copy of a new article about my work from Revista Ceramica published in Spain. Beautiful photos. Very impressive. I am delighted to be in it. The editor remembered me from an article i wrote in the 90s on Los Hornos Arabesque, 3-story kilns in the town where I lived during my Fulbright. A similar article on those kilns was published in Ceramics Monthly in 1989.

It is really WHITE up here in the great white North. High today 2 F. and the snow crystals are minuscule...but accumulating. Light weight shoveling anyway.
