What a wonderful thing to be able to do for her. As dementia challenges a person's ability to communicate with other people, animals can be a particular blessing.

Min reacted to Marcia Selsor in Got my 2 new raku kilns sprayed with rigidizer. Now they just need the kiln shed fini
i had 2 rolls from Texas and didn't bring my old pulley kiln from Texas. A few years before  I left Texas I built 2 new oil drum kilns, one for me and one for a friend. That is still in good shape. And my little demo 19 lb kiln that I built for my online course to demo firings is still fine. I used that in the park in July to demo Obvara.
I needed to build a new pulley (top hat) kiln to fire larger saggers and horse slabs. After all the snow last Fall, Winter and Spring, I decided to build an indoor raku facility. While building the top hat, I figured there was enough left over fencing for a frame for a cylinder kiln a little larger than an oil drum diameter plus just enough fiber. I ended up using all but 2 feet of the 2 12.5 ft. rolls and about 3 ft of fencing now around a tomato plant protecting it from deer and magpies. I now have 4 raku kilns and 3 electrics that will be housed in my new kiln shed extension. The 3 electrics are in the wooden part, the extension will be all steel with 2 barn doors, clear story windows and exhaust fans.
I may start offering workshops!!! The top hat is upside down in this photo and the cylinder is sitting on cinder blocks. I will permanently locate them in the shed on fire brick bases. My oil drum kiln I bought from Texas is under the bucket in one photo and under plastic behind the new cylinder kiln below.. I fired it yesterday and will fire more today.

Couldn't make Anacortes this year, hope to get down there next year. (maybe with Laura) We passed on the bbq, we have an old dog at home and needed to get back before he had an accident. The invitation warmed my heart, nice to be reminded  there are still very kind people in the world.

For salt & soda : P700, H570 & H550. I like them all but 570 mixed with 550 is my favourite & it has a few speckles - Callie recommended that mix. The P700 is nice and even translucent a bit in part, even covered with slip when you hold something up to the light! I guess so far I have only used their clay.
Plainsman doesn't get involved in exploration, other than within a short radius around Medicine Hat.

I've got some that needs recycling too. It is crazy expensive isn't it?!! The supplier here is selling by the half box, somehow 35- for 22 lbs doesn't seem as bad as 70 for 44.

LeeU - I think if "mass migration" is a concern, then it is up to each of us to promote and maintain an active, vibrant and respectful community (as has, been our culture).  People come and go for a variety of reasons, and yes there are losses to lament.  However, it is the culture that  holds thing together over time.  There's an incredible amount of talent and knowledge on this forum today, and I'm thankful for the efforts of  the existing and new moderators that help make this a community where that knowledge and ideas can be shared.

I can't imagine the time and work involved in doing a 4 hr round trip every time I wanted to fire pots. The control to fire how you want to, the convenience, glazes not getting dinged in the transport etc would make your life so much easier if you had your own kiln.

Maybe your decals are different than mine, but the 3rd firing I do for decals is at a much lower temp.  Perhaps that is why yours lost all their color?  I found Milestone decals to have a wealth of information about application and firing.  I think they also have some youtube videos.
