  1. Was doing a forum search on rare eath oxides such as Yttrium, Holium, and Samarium: wonder why these never came up in topics before?

I refer to them as oxides because most usually do; they are actually lanthanides.

Interesting- had to google it. The oxide is used in glass and it is an interesting read.

Does the Holium add pinholes :-)

  2. Picked up a bag each of Grolleg, McNamee, NZ, Helmer, and FHC: let the clay body tests continue.

Ah that's not too bad. Did a little maths and it comes out at £0.90 a kg and I pay £0.70 a kg

  3. Mothers Day: A good mom will let her kids eat batter off the beaters: a great mom will turn it off first.

  4. Made a slip from my new clay formula and cast my 12 x16 arched tile mold yesterday. Popped it out of the mold and hour later and it is still perfectly flat this afternoon. First time that has happened.

Joseph: so far all I have to do is roll and cut. I do not touch them again until they are bone dry. No turning or weighting- cuts labor way down.

looks like you may be onto something!

  5. Ordered technical grade/s of kaolins and one ball clay. Iron content is 0.08 which translates to super white porcelain.

Joel: clay formulation is actually easier than glaze. Then again I had an old pro teaching me.

  8. Closing on my office/warehouse in a couple of more days. The question now becomes: what studio toy should I buy?

so i have been contemplating this, and I think you need a 6x6 dance floor in the middle of the studio so when a good song comes on you can just drop what your doing and break down. for example:

If you're really feeling groovy you can mirror the ceiling so your disco ball really lights up the place.

And, glazenerd, it's life I'm high on. Thank you very much. :D LOL

  9. Recieved my first commissioned work today. A large tile mural at City Hall depicting city history. The high school art class and local college art class will be involved. I get to mix in my beloved crystalline pieces as well.

The VFW is now involved: want to add a sculpted war memorial.

  10. Got to spend a couple of hours picking the brain of a local glass artist. Gathering info on fusing glass onto fired porcelain pieces.Perhaps late this spring I will make my first attempts.

  11. I thought Community Challenge #5 would be a cake walk because I am a tile guy. After seeing just a few posts, I am getting very very nervous. Forgot how talented the people are in here. Do judges take bribes?

  12. I have been on the forum for roughly a month now. I must say it is an honor to see the works of so many talented and gifted people. The willingness to share knowledge and information is also commendable. Just thought it needed to be said.

I think pottery is an area where your vista is constantly expanding ... The more you learn, the less you know for sure. The narrower your focus, the wider your possibilities.

  13. It was a delight touring your gallery, not only artistic, but exceptional execution of the craft. Most impressive!! Bravo!!

  14. If you do not believe in your work, neither will anyone else.

  15. What is the difference between arrogance and confidence? Arrogance requires a voice, confidence is assured even when silent.

  16. Da Vinci left the Mona Lisa unfinished; deeming it one of his poorest works. The worst critic you will have in life- is you!
