rayaldridge reacted to oldlady for a gallery image, november 2015 016
it was another fun event with hundreds of people selecting bowls from the 7 or so long tables covered with our bowls. some are held back because the crowd comes through for over an hour and the first ones through always ALWAYS go for the biggest bowl they can find. no matter what color, design, skill level, they go for BIG. then the next bunch is more selective. the little boy in his mothers arms insisted on the "purple one" and clutched that rock heavy thing during the trip past everything else. mama kept suggesting others but he wanted HIS PURPLE BOWL so she gave up and he walked off with it

rayaldridge got a reaction from TJR for a gallery image, Turtle effigy water pipe
This is a one-piece water pipe thrown and joined in sections. The glaze is a deep green granite glaze that has the tactile quality of a river-worn pebble.

rayaldridge got a reaction from Marko for a gallery image, Cats Drinking Porcelain
I'm not really a cat person, but I chose to work with the basic shape because cats are far less variable in form than dogs and are thus more universally recognized, if that makes any sense. These images are developed using cut-out resists, colored slips, and sgraffito on porcelain.

rayaldridge reacted to Gittit for a gallery image, Ceramic Teapot
Hand thrown stoneware pottery teapot and cups are made with a speckled clay. The are coated in a white glaze.

rayaldridge got a reaction from oldlady for a gallery image, Deep Serving Bowl
The glaze is a silky white over pale blue slip, which breaks through the glaze to give soft delicate shades. The exterior was sprayed lightly with a blue ash glaze, which has gone transparent over the base glaze and run down to the foot in places. The interior is speckled with a blue reminiscent of a robin's egg.

Another piece with sprayed-on slip and satin white.

rayaldridge got a reaction from Juli Long for a gallery image, Pale lavender slipped and combed mug
I like this piece for its quiet looks.

rayaldridge got a reaction from ChenowethArts for a gallery image, Small sauce bowl
This little bowl developed a spectacular glaze, with a crystalline formation floating in the center that has a very strangely evocative pattern.

Wheel thrown white stoneware platter, underglazes with black underglaze outline, dotted accents. Clear glaze. 12" diameter.

rayaldridge got a reaction from Cathie64 for a gallery image, Dark Blue Syrup Server
This piece was dipped in a dark blue slip and combed lightly. It's designed to serve maple syrup with less drippage than a conventional little pitcher.

rayaldridge got a reaction from Sallyd for a gallery image, Yunomi with multiple slips
This is probably my favorite piece from the last firing. The yunomi was sprayed with a vitreous green slip and then a more refractory lavender slip. It was glazed in my current favorite glaze, a titanium satin matte. Somehow this treatment resulted in a soft gray with tiny flecks of many colors, green, blue, lavender... and with a mysterious pink flush on one side.

rayaldridge got a reaction from Sallyd for a gallery image, Three mise en place bowls
These three porcelain mise en place bowls are glazed with a clear deep blue and oversprayed with an active rutile glaze. I like these because they remind me a little of salt-glazed work.
