  1. I am thrilled to be turning down my first commission request! I am not going to do orders to specifications, but I will accommodate the person  by offering a few "close to/very similar" objects based on the desired attributes.

Lee, can you tell me how you turned down the commission work?  For instance, what words did you say?  I just got a request from a customer today saying that she wants 3 more mugs like the one she bought from me in December only she wants red hearts and she wants things written on them and ......  I have to be able to nicely turn down some custom work.......

I tell them I do not write words or do special orders.

I knew it, I knew it, I knew you would say that, Mark!!!   My husband said, no,  Just tell them no.

  2. Happy New Year! I'm thrilled to now have  someone to help with some of the non-clay tasks needed to set up an online store, which means I can focus more time/energy on making the pieces I need to make.

send him/her my way next, please!

  3. Decided to make four "hidden masks" specifically for the next anagama fire (NHIA) in April.   And some stands to display them on a flat surface, in addition to being wall pieces. Psyched!

      Looking forward to seeing them.

  4. Greetings of the season to everyone.

TY Lee. My immediate thought when I read your holiday greeting was: " wonder if a seasonal mask would work in your series"? Happy Holidays

  5. Yeah, a little late in the day, but I am putting together my timeline and priorities for 2018. Would love to get some tips, so I posted a  query in Business, Marketing, and Accounting.

  6. Happy with my firing of holiday gifts. I see myself getting better results (design & finish) each time I put a kiln load together.

I have really enjoyed your "Mask" series. I like the art, but more so the emotions they encapsulate.

  7. Added Hidden Mask No. 6 "Looking Out" to my gallery.

  8. Added two detail pics of the facial aspect of "Emerging" Hidden Mask. This piece was fired in the anagama kiln that was built by John Baymore's New Hampshire Institute of Art BFA students in 2014. The kiln, and the firing process, is a wonder to behold, and "wonder" is part of it's Japanese name, Fushigigama.

  9. I put a pic of my most recent "hidden mask" in the gallery.  It was fired in an anagama kiln, and I am thrilled with how it came out. Coincidently--serendipity--it was titled "Emerging" before I submitted it to the fire.

Nice! Must be a good experience to do a wood fire. Hope I get too some day.

      best,

  10. My update is more about self-reflective accountability that any news worth sharing. I am (really, really I am) working on my web site, using Old Lady's suggestion to put pics in my inventory spreadsheet (didn't know how--now I know how) and making some gifts for Christmas-porcelain trays, mostly.

  11. Upset with self--spent funds on low fire clay and glaze and just plain do not like either.  :(  I guess I need to give it a fair chance.  I got them for making pendants.

  12. Lee is super happy with her decorated tile, courtesy of the New Hampshire Potters' Guild raku demonstration at Andy Hampton's pottery. The left side is the result of slip that peels off. There is also Copper Flash and Moonshine (the blue).

  13. I guess it would help to add the photo.

  14. Look what I found! They were in a box in my storage shed-been there for 15 years-I thought they were long gone. Gas-fired masks made from a plaster mold that I made of face-pressed clay (the form of a friend' face). The top right one was made by my daughter, age 6 at the time.

  15. Oh yeah!!! So happy happy to see this "sidebar".

  16. Working like a fiend to end up with bisqued pieces via my kiln, for two pending fires off-site. One is a raku demo and the other a wood fire in an anagama kiln.  I procrastinated committing and thus painted myself into a corner, since I'll have to make & dry a lot of stuff right quick to fill my kiln and make the deadlines.

  17. People have asked me about my Hidden Mask series, so I have inserted some comments on the individual pics in the gallery. I have been doing face-pressed pseudo masks for many years. This particular series is about "honoring the survivor", whether that be metaphorical or literal.

I saw your comments on your gallery, it looks like they are all quite deeply personal and emotional pieces, it's very moving, thank you for sharing

  18. YEE HAW.............finally got the Status stream working and am getting new content! And I found the "Remove Stream" button---right in front of my nose, of course!!

Unloaded my kiln a few days ago-mostly pleased. Glazes were quite nice. It is the concepts and technical aspects of my pendants that I must refine. The better I get, the more I see the shortcomings in older work. I am glad I have no reservations about sending it to meet Mr. Hammer.

  19. This is a test, this is just a test. I am trying to see if this (in Profile) is where one enters a status update and whether it shows up anywhere for others to read it.  I made a dedicated Status activity feed but it does not show anything from anybody.

LeeU. PM me and I will help you with this. There is another way to make feeds that can be easier. I can send you a screen shot if you would like.

  20. Is this "personal feed" the new  "status/on your mind" thing??? Testing, testing!!

    1. Joseph Fireborn

      Joseph Fireborn

YES! But it isn't nearly visible enough. So it goes unnoticed most of the time.

  21. I love my logo, if  do say so myself! It makes me feel good-it is cheery. I am not cheery, so it's cool that I am represented in a way that great graphics can do! I used Fivver to aid in design & produce-for less than $50!!!

  22. Getting ready for my next fire, around mid-month. So far, I have managed not to break any greenware except one pendant. I got every piece finished and glazed, and I completed glazing “No Secretsâ€- a porcelain piece in the Hidden Mask Series. I have addressed it with color and thoroughly enjoyed planning and placing the palette.

Congratulations, isn't is a great feeling. My husband just rewired my big Skutt, first firing came out nearly perfect.

Congrats on the piece. Do we get to see a picture?

Go to http://www.leeuceramics.com/blog and there is a large pic of the greenware of "No Secrets" and pics of the other 3 in the series.

  23. I may get to put some smalls in the Discover Portsmouth gift shop during the summer exhibition (have 2 pieces in the show-both from the Hidden Mask Series-wall portraits). I'm going to submit a couple of catch-alls, some tea light holders, and business card holders. Pics in my gallery.

      good luck!

  24. Happy with recent firing-highlights for me that I want to repeat/expand were making a rattle, matching spoons to trays, and finding a lighter palette that I like a lot. Also, the pics of my pieces are getting done!
