oldlady got a reaction from Pyewackette for a gallery image, florida leaf pots, bowls 028.JPG
small pieces of sponge holds up the rippling edge of this shallow bowl. found that the slip with red iron oxide had dried up so i did not brush color onto this one. gotta make more colored slip!

well, i loved the idea of this bowl, tried to do it last year but did not have room in the kiln for it. so it sat around since january of 2017 waiting. do you see the crack in the rim? do not do this. i think that as i put it into the bottom of the kiln, i used only one hand, stressing the rim. i know better but it was in an awkward place so i think that is what happened. do not do this. blue slip with brush strokes that show, green stroke and coat, red stroke and coat and yellow bug in stroke and coat. sad....................

while driving through a residential area, i was stopped by the colorful beauty of the overflowing bed of nasturtiums. had to limit the number of leaves since the stem i used was so full of leaves and flowers. too much for clarity.

These are some of the recent honey jars I have been working on, proof of concept. The spoon is for honey drizzle, with a hole in the back side. This allows no swizzle stick, and no opening for bees or flies to get into the honey if out on the deck or other wise. Fire with the lid upside down to prevent the glaze from gluing the lid on where the glaze may pool between the end of the spoon and the inside pot bottom. Working now on 50 of these for a first order. Mugs are also in the order for 50, with a honey comb/bee motif.

a second attempt. on this one, while still on just paper, i tried to remove some excess red where i ran over the black lines. i used a Q-tip and got the color off but it did not all come off so you can see some paler color outside the lines.

it worked!!! well, of course, i am learning a skill, not making a product so this first attempt has a lot of things i hope to improve on the next ones. i still cannot paint but this looks so simple, maybe i can do something that is ok.

oldlady got a reaction from Joseph Fireborn for a gallery image, last one came off easily. now to scratch lightly the dragonfly to remove some of the RIO slip. that will allow the purple stroke and coat to fill in the dragonfly fully. green glaze goes over the whole thing once i get home to west va.

when this is glazed with green transparent glaze, i hope the blue will not change too much but the leaves will be green. the dragonfly is usually done with a purple stroke and coat. the leaves are virginia creeper which is taking over the back fence. it froze a couple of weeks ago but i am glad it is back.

Spring is almost here. Thousands of Sandhill Cranes are gathering along the feeding grounds of the Platte River in central Nebraska before continuing on to Canada.
I finally did something related to the event.

oldlady reacted to terrim8 for a gallery image, top cage assembled
Day 1. Start collecting parts for my new raku kiln. So far, instruction book, lots of wire & a burner w hose.
Day.2. Constructed basic cage frame, injured hand, took cage to a metal shop to make it sturdy & prettier! My hand doesn't look too pretty under this bandage but its just a scratch.
Day 3. Picked up cage frame & they did a nice job- look at those handles!
