Learning to throw does take a lot of practise. AN instructor can only do so much. I'd say it takes hours /week of practice to get it. Michael Cardew said it takes 7 years before the level of mastering the skill. It is like playing a musical instrument. It takes focus and practice. Marcia -

this was a very funny one posted by a student in my classroom in 1981. I had to keep it posted because it shows we all start somewhere. -
Heading home from Milwaukee on Sunday. saw a show Old hands in clay by masters 70+, the Racine Art Museum had an awesome Contemporary Ceramics Collection including Beatrice Wood,Bill Daley, Jack Troy, many others.

Yes, but it is easy for it to go shiny if a little hotter. -

This kiln got a second layer of insulation bricks. the Chimney stack went to about 6 feet above the arch. -

The pattern is from stretching out the surface after it has dried a little with sodium silicate on it.
