Natania
I'd like to start assembling a list of good and inspiring pottery videos to show to my high school class, but there is an overwhelming amount of stuff on the internet. Which ones are your favorites?

dhPotter
Vessels for Victory by Matt Long. He gives insights into his thoughts on making pottery and why he does certain things. Can be deep. The 1972 film Shoji Hamada: The Art of the Potter. Bernard Leach is also in the film. He talks about the soul of a potter. Depending on the age of your students, the may get bored. It is cool old world throwing and then firing a wood kiln. It is incredible how crude the tools are that Hamada uses, compared to today's tools. Come to think of it, don't we still use sticks and metal banding for trim tools? We just don't sit on the floor crossed-legged and use a stick to spin the wheel. perkolator
"The Meaders Family: North Georgia Potters" -- documentary. really good at showing "how things used to be done" (hand-dug clay, hand-crushed glass to make glaze, wood-fired) "Revolutions of the Wheel" -- pretty good 5-part series on ceramics, but a complete failure at documenting the major female contributors of the early ceramic arts Korean Onggi Pottery videos -- on YouTube, posted by Adam Field. Davidpotter
Any video where the person destroys what they made at the end. If I were a teacher I would have my students break their first 5 projects so they can get away from the "my baby" stage and go to the "what if I do this" stage. AS for videos I would say any pottery video by youdanxxx. Maybe one of his father's too?

oldlady
watching Isaac Button throw those great, big milk settling pans is a sure cure for the "i can't do it, it's too hard" whines.

Marcia Selsor
Tasheko Takaezu by Hudson River Productions She throws the large closed forms, then her glazing demo is inspiring as she dances juggling glaze over flat forms. Kate Malone She demonstrates her very large 4-5' garden vessels. She also has videos on wall installations done with school groups. Some of these are free on you tube or her website. Chilly
That was a good video. So calming and professional. I feel a holiday is required in Warwickshire, or maybe a drop-in on the way to my dad's next time.
CarlCravens
There's a book about Whichford Pottery (of the video drmyrtle links to), written by the founder (Keeling), titled "Flowerpots". You can pick it up pretty cheap on Amazon (used starting at under a buck). I found it interesting and inspirational, reading about a working pottery that focuses on flowerpots of all sizes. It's subtitled "a seasonal guide to planting, designing and displaying pots" but it's far more about the pottery and making of pots than it is about how to manage your own display garden. What there is about the actual plants is more "how we do it at Whichford, as our award-winning garden is part of our sales strategy." I don't think this would be useful to a gardener who doesn't have thousands of dollars to spend on a show garden, but it's interesting to read from a potter's perspective... the amount of work put into the plants (that is, marketing and sales of the product) is huge. I was hoping to learn something about making basic flowerpots, but it doesn't really cover the technical details at that level.
Benzine
Amazing: from mud to vessels made using different techniques. Great video. Those large vessels were awesome. The wheels need some serious torque!
