  1. Big bisque load in last night, 8 teapots, mugs, chalices, mortar and pestles, lot of stuff to glaze this week during the warmer 60F. days.

  2. Finally found the book I have been looking for online, so I bought two copies. Its name is "Aboriginal Pottery of the Southeastern United States", by Holmes. So far, the books purchased for this article I haven't written has cost $200. On the bright side, they're pretty good references. See ya later.

  3. Made a couple of ceramic Jack-O-Lanterns for the front porch. I love pumpkins as decoration, but I like carving them less and less each year. This will solve that problem.

  4. FINALLY got a new avatar! ^_^ Hooray for actually being on a real computer and not my dang phone... :D

  9. I just got back from 3 days/2 nights of free studio time from the Mendocino Art Center (CA). I've sold in their gallery and taken many workshops there and they heard about the loss of my house/studio, so they offered me this wonderful gift. It was the first time since the fire that I've worked with clay and it felt fabulous!! Someone was firing a ^6 kiln and was able to fit a few of my shards in, and they refired beautifully, so I'll refire a lot of my other shards so I...

  10. Had a great trip to Andalusia , Spain and through Extremadura to and from Madrid. Saw many pots from where I had visited in 1980s doing research. sadly most of the traditional potters are no longer around.

  11. I'm gonna try my paws at chopstick jars next. ^_^

  13. The Valley Fire wiped me out. Been to our property and our whole neighborhood is destroyed. I lost all: three wheels, three kilns, 400-500 pots, etc... I can replace my equipment and materials but my pots... that's where my big loss is because I can only claim cost of materials. All my hours of work and potential earnings are lost. I have a lot of questions which I'll be addressing in specific sections of the forum. I'm applying for a CERF grant and have set up an account for dona...

  14. Unloaded a huge (for me) 45-piece bisque load that was all my own work. I'm so excited and inspired to make more things that glazing these first will take self-discipline. I'm definitely a mud potter!

By the way, be sure to take your painkillers with lots of food! That'll help curb the nausea a lot. I have to take that stuff for my spine and it makes my face bright green if I take them without eating. :D

If you're having trouble seeing comments, try going to your profile page and looking up your status history that way. :) I have that problem sometimes. As for sugery, yeah, waking up from anesthesia can be pretty jarring! It's like a devilish hangover. :D Healing wishes for a swift recovery! ♥♥♥

  18. All right, day before surgery. I will not be online much in the next few days. Will come back though as good as new...

  19. Threw porcelain for the first time ever. >:( It was not cooperative. I have been doing so well, yet I scraped off several flops. Finally I went back to B-Mix and my confidence was so shaken that I kept having flops with that too. Grump grump grump.

Ahhh, porcelain. My friend once said it's like throwing with cream cheese. :D I managed to throw okay with Seattle Pottery's ^5 Crystal White, but it was pretty stressful! :D I'll stick to my lowfire white. It is glaringly white and throws really nicely. :)

Are you kidding? Why would Skutt omit such valuable info on a really essential repair? Geez... yeah, Neil's the man when it comes to repair questions! ^_^

  25. My house/studio was burned to the ground in the Valley Fire that started very close to my home. Our street was the first to go and my area is totally destroyed. 75% of the homes in my little town are gone. I had over 300 pots ready for fairs and of course, all the pottery we use daily. I’m devastated. I’m hoping I’ll be able to recover some pots that didn’t break/melt, and maybe my kilns? Wheel? The evacuation order hasn’t been lifted yet. With the shards I’ll make a big mosaic wall when we...

Oh...my...god... oh, honey. This just breaks my heart so bad, you poor thing. :'( Up here in Washington, it was horrible, too. My friend lost 101 angora rabbits and everything she owned to the Marble Valley Fire. This is getting so out of hand, with tragic consequences. You have my deepest condolences! :'(
